Miata Hard Top

Got a hell of a deal on a black hard top for my miata. Since I have a 2001 and the hard top is from 1992, I need to buy some plates to hook it up inside the car. Other than that, a hell of a deal!

I might repaint it and resell it too...

Got one too. Came with the car. Couple more months and it will go back on the car. Nice to actually have a decent sized rear window you can actually see out of and scrape in the winters. Just wish mine had a rear defroster but the center dash vents work given enough time 🙂. Going to have to put a new soft top on it next year. Had to glue my plastic rear window back in last year and now I have a small tear in the top. The top made it 15 years so I guess I can't complain too much.

How much did you end up paying for it?

Is the aftermarket hard top comparable to the official retractable version that comes with the upper trim levels?

I'm honestly looking into getting a used one, but gotta figure out what to do with it during the winter. Oh, and rollover safety.

hardtops don't really add any rollover safety

also, the hardtops are OEM and we're talking about the older NA and NB body, not the new NC you're asking about

Ya, probably better off putting roll bars in. I'd probably look into the NB generation once I commit to it.

The biggest problem with having a hard top is finding somewhere to store it in the summer. I have a garage but it is just one more thing taking up space in there. It doesn't really add any warmth in the winter either if thats what your thinking. The big plus is the big scrapable window and if you get lucky some of the hard tops did come with rear defrosters. You can get soft tops with glass windows and defrosters but I still wouldn't want to scrap it. Puts too much pressure on the stitching.
