OK, I think I got screwed by Staples. I ordered just the Photsuite, not the DVD bundle you guys are talking about.

Supposed to be $29.97 - $30 rebate. It is Still Listed on staples.com

But I open the box and only has a $10 rebate. Staples claims ignorance and says they can't find copies of $30 rebate either.

Bait and switch if you ask me! Did anyone actually get a $30 rebate form!?

Got it, try to load SoftDVD, get an error message?

Their Web Site has a posting about it.

Clip form MGI-SOFT.COM
Issue: During installation, SoftDVD Max reports an error occurred during the
move data process: -113.ö After clicking OK, the installation and setup
terminates.
Resolution: This error is caused by a defective SoftDVD installation CD.
Please contact MGI Technical Support regarding this problem. We will provide a
replacement SoftDVD Max installation CD. The MGI Technical Support phone number
for video products is (905) 764-5447.
End of clip

Their general number is: 1-888-644-7638

In order to find a solution they will not discuss it on the 800 number. They insist that you call Toronto Canada (905) to discuss the matter.

Email from yesterday was not answered.

DUH!

At my local Staples, if they cannot find the rebate form, they will directly deduct the amount when check-out. I saw sb. got instant $100 off. As for Photosuite 4 PLATINUM, Staples had it free after MIR last week also. But I missed it. I got Photosuite 4 couple weeks ago, now I have this bundle. So I have two copies of PhotoSuite 4 base

I have not tried VideoWave, since I am using Ulead. Have not tried DVDMax either since I am using WinDVD. Free is good.

Staples is up to their usual tricks on this one. The rebate form they give with the purchase of the MGI PhotoSuite bundle is a Staples rebate to be handled out of Coppell TX and says "$30 Rebate" and "MGI Software Bundle" which sounds OK. But it is for the purchase of the three MGI software items individually. It specifically says "Cut out and send original UPC bar codes from your 3 product boxes". The ad in this weeks Staples flyer says "$29.94 mfg. mail-in rebate". A call to the 1-888 Staples number confirms that the Staples rebate form does not apply to this item or to this promotion. The manager at my Staples store spent a long time on the phone with Staples headquarters and was unable to resolve the problem. She was told it was a manufacturers rebate and that it was in the box. Of course it is not. The $10 rebate form in the box is to be mailed to Jericho NY and Staples has nothing to do with it at all. You will have difficulty with it as well since the UPC code for PhotoSuite on the box has been covered over with a different UPC for the MGI software bundle. The UPC you send in will probably be rejected as not being the correct UPC since the rebate form specifically asks for the UPC for MGI PhotoSuite 4, not for UPC for the Digital Solution Bundle.

dude, that was last week (or the week before). it ain't no hot deal if you can't get p4p for that price now. this week compusa's flyer has the standard with a $10 rebate someone MIGHT get(PO BOX 52900 probably). i'm saying if there's no compusa near them--they can go to office depot and get the standard also for $9.99. it's ALMOST the same deal :)
that's all i'm saying :)
edit: i'd like to add that it's really about the artist, not about the program--tweak those filters, baby!
this would be a good program to give to my parents for archiving photos

This promotion is up again - with the same old tricks.

I needed a copy of SoftDVD, so I decided to give it a go.

The wife went two rounds at the Staples B & M before they gave up and gave it to her for free, as there was no rebate in the package and they didn't have any rebate forms available (even though there is a valid $10 MIR inside - for the trouble).

And yes, this is still the corrupt SoftDVD software - gonna call the 888 number tomorrow.

Can anyone update their experience getting a "real" copy?

I am using SoftDVDmax now, which is a replacement I got for the defective one came with the PhotoSuite bundle from Staple. The CSR emphasized the one with defect was made in 'Canada', and she would send me a replacement which is made in 'US'. Funny. And the CSR didn't ask for any provement for purchase, so you can actually get it for free by simply reporting the installing problem to MGI. Maybe they should do something to prevent guys take advantage from it by frauding.

BTW, the softDVDmax is working fine. I didn't find any problem with it.

Spoke with their CSR this morning to report the defective CD. She asked if I had registered (required for the $10 MIR), and my e-mail address, which she claims will alow them to confirm my registration.

On the other hand, ANYONE can register - all you need is a software version. Of course, I am not suggesting that anyone should do anything misleading...

Thanks for the info, naixus and 858diver. I tried in vain to get through to the MGI tech support somewhere in Canada at my owm cost(no 800 number). I didn't think of just returning the CD to Staples.

Thanks.

BlackCatt, comparing photoshop and illustrator to this software is like comparing Godzilla to a tiny lizard.
