Did you actually get the rebate?
I tried two stores and no luck - they don't have such rebate!?!

 The rebate is in the box (at least for Photosuite). They offer $20 instant off in store and $10 mail in, in box (you also have to register software before you can claim rebate.)

I got the PhotoSuite 4.0 Platinum version for $0.01 last week from CompUSA. It was kinda funny, me and a friend went to CompUSA at lunch and just happened to see a rack that said "Free Stuff" and it had several software titles on it. The only one that really interested me enough to fill out the MIR and send it in was the PhotoSuite 4.0 Platinum. When we went to checkout I was expecting to pay $20.00 and get the MIR form and fill it out, to my suprise the sales associate asked me for $0.01... I kinda looked suprised and then asked my friend for a penny. She said that the MIR's were "snowed in" in Colorado and so they just made it an instant rebate. She then said there was one other title that had the same thing, some clipart software so we each picked up a copy of that as well for another $0.01.

So thats my 2 cents... ;)
(sorry I couldn't resist)

Matts122,

Here in NC, Staples actually has a $30 mail-in rebate this week for this. It's called the MGI $30 Rebate. It went into effect on 12/31/00. The package will ring up as the "Digital Sol. Bdl" for $29.94.

As for the rebates in the box, there was a $10 rebate for PhotoSuite 4.0 and a $35 Rebate for VideoWave 4.0 .

Later.

Another question:
Does anyone know what's the best program out there to organize and view pictures (pictures taken with a digital camera). Right now, everytime I double-click a .jpg I open Corel PhotoPaint (ouch!)

Thanks!

B&M stands for Brick and Mortar. That's the kind of store which you walk into, NOT an online store.

MazingerZ,
There is a good little freeware viewer program that I've use called Irfanview. Sorry, I don't know how to link but you can find it at Irfanview.com

I picked up this bundle from Staples yesterday. The rebate doesn't expire until the 6th. Looks like they just took the PhotoSuite box, added cd's for VideoWave IIIse and SoftDVD Max, and stuck a new UPC label over the PhotoSuite one. I get home, instantly fill out the rebate and then try to install SoftDVD. Guess what? Kept getting an error every time I tried to install. Went to the MGI website and found out that they had a bad batch of cd's. Have to call 1-800-something and have them send me a new cd. I'd try to take it back to Staples but now I have no UPC. Besides, I'm betting that all the SoftDVD cd's at the store are bad.

PhotoSuite is like a consumer level program. it's not great, but it'll do what most people want...

photoshop's strength is in the millions of plugins it has as well as its own suite of capabilities.

photoshop is to photosuite as a ti92 is to the a scientific calculator. most people just need to add and subtract and junk, and some require the robust capabilities of a graphing calculator.

free is great price. not that $.01 is overpaying... i'd pay $20 for it, if i wanted it. i have photoshop LE (bundle) and photoshop (from a friend, yeah legit).

compusa has had these titles on and off for "free" after the
rebates, and Ive bought them all, softdvd being the latest, s
still waiting for rebates...

BlackCatt/Mazinger Z - by far the best program to use for working with photos is
Adobe PhotoShop, get ahold of the real one 5.0 or the LE if you can.
MGI Photosuite is okay to play around with the photos, but to do real
serious editing Photoshop is the best.
To organize and view pictures, the eastiest (free) program is IrfanView
which has a great slideshow feature and can use to organize all the jpegs
in a folder. The next best ($) is ixla Explorer, which compUSA also had recently
for "free"

Guys,

My personal pick for Photo Editing is PaintShop Pro. I've had it for years and through the years it's improved tremendously. Adobe is overkill for entry and mid level users.

As for DV-Editing, I thought VideoWave did I pretty good job. I heard that WIN CD is the tool to use, though I have yet tried it.

The Rebate offer by the way is still good until the end of this week.

Thx

It sounds stupid, but I need to know - you guys received a Staples $30 MIR coupon right? Just came back from Staples where manager kept telling me that the rebate is only $10 which is in the box and another $20 is the instant one.
I assume this is wrong, but need your confirmation. I am not new to Staples and rebates, for me it's obvious that I should get a $30 MIR from Staples.
Thanks for yr help.

Mats122,

It's an actual $30 Mail-In Rebate called "MGI $30 Rebate" it's a physical paper.

I found them right by the actual PhotoSuite package.

the orange box of photosuite is $9.99 (without rebate) for those who can't get the deal at office depot.
and psp has a browse function that's better than anything else i've seen.
edit: 4.0

Not really a hot deal. You only get Photosuite 4, not Photosuite
4 PLATINUM. Last week, CompUSA had PS 4 Platinum for free after
rebate (and only $10 before rebate).

Videowave SE isn't all that great (go for the real version instead).

And though I haven't used SoftDVD Max, I see no real reason to
own it, given that I already have several software DVD players
(and almost anyone who has a DVD unit does)...

But a lukewarm deal if you really want at least two of these
programs...

SurfinDaNet,

Turns out my SoftDVDMax Cd is a piece of sh*t too. It keeps GPFing as soon as I load it. The MGI bad batch of CDs BS sounds a little far fetched. Thanks for the info...

Would be nice to understand the rebate situation a bit better, so that we could pick it up on staples.com or PM someplace. Rebate still hasn't yet been posted on staplesrebates.com or rebateshq.com (who does staples fulfillment).

858diver,

It was a B&M deal. It appeared in the Sunday Circular and is good until the 6th and as mentioned by SurfinDaNet, looks to be just a PhotoSuite Box packaged with VideoWave IIIse and SoftDVD Max.

Best of Luck.
