Mexico City

Thinking about heading to Mexico City, see Teotihuacan and Museo Nacional de Antropologia and a couple other museums in the area, anyone been there before?

I love mexico city. Used to go quite often for work. Yes, generally the city has high crime rate, however if you don't act flashy, go to bad areas, or stand out, you won't have any issues. If you don't know someone there who can provide some guidance, I'd recommend staying in la reforma at one of the nicer hotels and sticking to more upscale restaurants. The pyramids are relatively easy to get to using a car service or various tour services. I do not recommend renting a car.

Like Mexico City.

But you're safe from the corona.

I've been there more than a handful of times and have never felt unsafe, even when walking along the reforma or in neighborhoods outside the reforma. Would I walk around in the slum areas or alone on streets that weren't crowded during the night? No, but that's just common sense. I wouldn't do that shit in parts of Chicago, LA, or Houston either!

I've been to Mexico several times, but never Mexico City. Our company requires you to have a security escort for Mexico City. Personally I have no desire to go there. So many better places to travel to.

From the State Department.

Mexico City – Level 2: Exercise Increased Caution

Exercise increased caution due to crime.

Both violent and non-violent crime occur throughout Mexico City. Use additional caution, particularly at night, outside of the frequented tourist areas where police and security patrol more routinely. Petty crime occurs frequently in both tourist areas and non-tourist areas.

My wife and I were there a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. We stayed in a nice hotel right by the park by Reforma. We essentially just went to the museums, which were great, ate awesome food and enjoyed the warm weather.

Level 2 really isn't that bad. Half of Europe is basically level 2. Basically in Mexico City just be smart, use Uber instead of taxis, don't go into bad areas and you should be totally fine. Many other areas of Mexico are Level 3 but the City itself isn't as bad as the countryside.
