Mexican Consulate saves 9 year old American citizen from Customs & Border Patrol

Yes, the title is correct. Our CBP detained a 9 year old girl who is an American citizen for 32 hours and forced her 14 year old brother to sign a document that she wasn't his sister. Oh, and he signed under the threat of charging him with sex trafficking. That the Mexican Consulate had to secure her release from American authorities just shows the incompetence hard at work on our border.

When asked why it took 32 hours to verify Julia's identification, CBP would not give specific information. “Some specifics of our techniques for determining the true identity of a person crossing the border are law enforcement sensitive information," Wasiluk added. "In addition, some details of this case are restricted from release due to privacy concerns."

Shorter CBP: Fuck off, we don't have to tell you a thing.

CBP is dealing with hundreds of cases a day. I can understand if they are functionally overwhelmed and unable to effectively do their job.

You think it wouldn't take long to scan fingerprints, or verify a name / address, but you might be surprised at how many thousands long the backlog could be.

I would expect the Democrat Congress to look into this matter, to understand how it occurred, and how to prevent it from happening again.

Yeah. It's much easier to threaten people with sex trafficking charges and lock the kids away than try and fix the backlog. 🙄

There have been various reports of seriously underhanded practices within CBP. Since they don't have right to representation, it's hard to imagine what they can't get away with being overseen by an administration which wants them to be as discriminatory and punitive as possible.

This stuff happening is a feature not a bug. Anything that scares the brown people from coming over is deemed to be good and endorsed by the administration, regardless of it being unjust or not. There is little the Democrats can do to CBP since it's an executive agency and recently the tactic used in congressional hearings is to feign incompetence or argue about words rather than outright lie about what they are doing.

Sounds reasonable to me. She was not accompanied by an adult this time when she normally is. Better to be sure than let her be a victim of human trafficking. Maybe it would be a good idea to update passport pictures every few years for children under a certain age since their facial features change dramatically.

A federal official with knowledge of the case who was not authorized to speak about it said the 9-year-old had provided inaccurate information to border agents, which prompted a series of protocols that agents were required to conduct. The need to go through that process and ensure that the girl was not a victim of human trafficking contributed to the length of her detainment, the official said.

Eventually, border agents confirmed that the teenager was a United States citizen and he was permitted to enter the country, Mr. DeSio said. Then, around 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the 9-year-old girl was admitted to the United States and released to her mother after the authorities confirmed her identity and her citizenship, Mr. DeSio said.

“C.B.P. prioritizes the safety of the minors we encounter,” he said. “It’s important that C.B.P. officials positively confirm the identity of a child traveling without a parent or legal guardian.”

Detaining a 9 year old US citizen and her 14 year old brother and threatening him with human trafficking charges unless he lies about who they are (to cover for their incompetence) sounds reasonable? Are the racist knuckle-draggers at CBP unable to scan fingerprints?

Maybe Dump could shift cash from his "definitely not compensating for anything" vanity project to speeding up processing at major border crossings so people going back and forth every day don't have to sit in line for hours.

If a kid is under 16 years of age they have renew their passport every 5 years instead of every 10.

But yeah, I got a passport for my daughter when she was like.... 6 months old heh. It's not like the photo is all useful when it's just a baby.

Maybe if Pelosi and the rest of the Democrats in Congress pony up money for border security, maybe the CBP can get things cleaned up.

Sometimes it's like DHS is just trolling for delicious Libruhl tears.

I know what you mean, I did the same with mine. Thing is though my Google photos app has no problem working out who my, and my relatives, kids are whatever age they are. From birth up to teenage.
