Mexican-American boy's national anthem sparks racist comments

haters gonna hate

lots of haters in murrica

hating is futile, land taken from mexico will become latin again, white people don't have kids.

Sounds like a kid with his head screwed on right. He'll probably make more if himself than the mouth breathers complaining about him.

As for Sebastien, he said the racist comments have not fazed him."For those that said something bad about me, I understand it's your opinion," said Sebastien to CNN. "I'm a proud American and live in a free country. It's not hurting me. It's just your opinion."

It was only "latin" for a couple of hundred years in the wake of Spain's brutal, genocidal exploitation of the region. Maybe the aboriginal natives would like to have it back, too? They had it for around a 1000 years.

Are you talking about Mexico or all of the Americas?

I thought the main problem most people had with Mexican americans was their lack of assimilation into American culture? What better thing to see then than a Mexican American sing the American national anthem?

He was dressed like mariachi though. That's kind of playing up the Mexican part of Mexican American a bit.

I don't get the hate. Its not like he sang it in Spanish or something. He has talent.

The kid has balls singing the anthem in front of such a large audience. It's not his first time singing in front of a large crowd though. I remember him from America's Got Talent last year, and he did very well. He's a REALLY talented kid, and has way more courage than 99% of the people out there, especially at his age.

I do understand why people are upset though. Its because we have a lot of stupid people in this country. And stupid people LOVE to voice their stupidity. It's just what stupid people do...well, and breed. Stupid people LOVE making more stupid people. They're actually the best at it. So yes, I do understand why Americans are upset. But that has nothing to do with the kid.

People don't like people different than them, simple/sad but true.

I'm guilty of this as well, but it's based on social class more than anything. I don't care about your race as long as you act educated and not stereotypical.

If he was born in America, then he's an American. He's not hispanic, chicano, mexican-american or any other silly name someone wants to attach to him. To me, some of his defenders are just as racist by labeling him anything other than American.

As a Norwegian American I approve this post.

Does that go for people who call themselves Irish American or Scottish American or anyoftheotherweirdmadeupthings that Americans like to call themselves?

Edit: Or Norwegian American

Good luck telling African Americans that they're 'just' American lol

as the US has no official language, he's right to sing it in any language he chooses. he's also right to make an original arrangement of the music.

fwiw, "the star spangled banner" is set to music pirated (to use the modern lingo) from an old english drinking song, "to anacreon in heaven". and "my country, tis of thee" is pirated from britain's national anthem, "god save the queen".

You don't know what pirating is.

Gotta love what the internet has devolved into. Some person does/says something in some little corner of the country then a few mouth breathers (minute in comparison to the population as a whole) post stupid trollish crap and then all the outraged counter posts come followed by dissemination to various message boards where it all plays out endlessly until the next social media outrage of the moment appears to start the cycle all over again.

Unfortunately its not a "minute" amount of people.

Unless there are 50,000 or so of those comments in a country of 319 million it is a minute number of people. To even get it to just 10% of the population of San Antonio alone you would need 136,000 comments.

Everyone is a lying sack of shit and they take whatever label benefits them. People pretend to be black out in public then pretend to be white when getting a loan. Out of nowhere, they start talking in some yuppy upper class accent.

Society would be a lot better if people didn't say what their background was.
