The Mexican ambassador in London has complained to the BBC about "xenophobic" and "offensive" comments made by the motoring show's presenters.

Ambassador Eduardo Medina-Mora Icaza has demanded an apology after Richard Hammond jokingly described Mexicans as "lazy, feckless, flatulent [and] overweight" during an episode of the BBC2 show screened on Sunday.

When are people going to stop acting like everyone anyone is an official spokesperson for a country? Sure, the BBC is ultimately publicly run but there's a lot of viewpoints on it. This is probably even less relevant than Rush Limbaugh making fun of the Chinese president because this is just a car show. I can see being offended by this but I don't understand why diplomats need to get involved.

Heh, I never asked for the the BBC to apologize for when they visited my state. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy watching Top Gear, but you do have to realize that the hosts are, for lack of a better word, tools.

The hosts are awesome, I say that because I've met them, they are all amazing people and together they are a great team, I love them because they don't give a fuck, and nor should they, they say funny stuff that people in the UK think. I hope they don't apologise, I hope they make fun of the ambassador as they normally would.

Yeah, they basically insult everyone. Which makes it even sillier for an ambassador to be involved.

I don't think you get English humor. Making fun of people is funny, you are not funny, therefore make fun of you so you can be funny. Anyone that ":'(" when made fun of, is even more hilarious and deserves more teasing. Anyone that looks at others and calls them "tools" for doing the previous, also gets made fun of because they are power tools.

Exactly the whole point of top gear is the play up to the English love of England, and everyone else sucks. The same way some americans think about america, Top Gear is awesome because they say what is funny and fuck who get offended.

Watch them bend to the pressure like bitches and apologize.

I 100% agree with them re: Mexico though.

That segment seemed kind of awkward. I could see Clarkson telling the ambassador to screw off, but Hammond? I don't think he or May have ever been criticized for comments on the show.

Hmm I think they have whenever they all join in. Particularly the Morris owners club.
