Mets trade Mike Cameron to the Padres

Nady has a lot of potential, but yeah, SD really needed a good CF for that huge outfield. At least Klesko won't be in the outfield now. Man is he a terrible outfielder.

NOOOOOOOO......

Xavier Nady will now have a breakout year.
He has huge potential.

Kevin Towers sucks wang.

And all we get is a washed up, injury prone, CF.

Knowing the luck of the Mets it'll be Cammy having a breakout year and Nady doing nothing.

The thing about this trade is that the Pads will eat up the entire 7 million owed to Cameron and the Mets get a young player with potential for 500K. Now I think Nady will really be part of some future deals. Who knows really..Omar Minaya is up to something.

This is a good trade for the mets, Xavier Nady was once a top rated prospect and his offensive potential is greater than Camerons. I dunno Towers has made some stupid trades (Oliver Perez and Jason Bay for a 30 + Brain Giles?).

Maybe hes loading up for a run at Manny. Although he should not cost them that much if they are willing to eat his contract.

Jason Bay was also in the Mets minor league system. Steve Phillips traded him for Steve Reed..ugh.

In fact.. Bay was bounced around quite a bit..I think he was in the Expos/Nationals system too.

Wouldnt suprise me I mean we are talking about a team that traded Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano

considering the mets will have Piazza's money and now with Camerons money gone, they should be able to afford Manny, but what to do with Nady. first base? or will manny move to first?

Nady would platoon first base with Mike Jacobs..he could also play a corner outfield position if necessary. A platoon of Nady/Jacobs at first would be a very cheap alternative and the Mets could then have plenty of money to sign Molina/Hernandez for catcher, possible get Soriano or maybe even Furcal for second base, sign Wagner or some other closer..etc.

i think they should go with less catcher too. with wright, cameron, nady/jacobs platoon and Manny they will have MORE than enough offense. why spend money on an overrated catcher when they can platoon the guy they have now with a decent 2nd catcher.

i doubt furcal will come to NY to play second, he will get many offers to play SS.

is kaz's contract up? if not keep him one more season, i believe he had a 3 yr deal right? keep him, he won't hurt you nearly as much at second as he did at SS.

even so, i see a pretty good lineup.

I agree about the catcher situation. Rick Peterson really like Ramon Hernandez from his Oakland days and wants the Mets to get him since he works well with pitchers..but at what cost? Ramon Castro did a fine job as backup but the Mets really need another catcher as they have no one in their system.

As for Kaz Mutsui..I dont want to see him ever again. He was actually decent at second and didnt look worthless there like he did at stortstop and I think he has potential for some decent offense. I think the Mets are stuck with him no matter what.

Furcal only talks about the Mets to jack up his asking price. I keep hearing about the Cubs so I suppose he may go there since Nomar is Nomore in Chicago.

I also don't think Manny is going anywhere.

being a padres fan, im happy with the deal. we get a better defensive outfielder in the spacious petco park. sure nady was good as a utility player and has some power, but the thing is that he tries and murders the ball everytime. he doesnt understand the concept of tightening up and looking to just make contact with 2 strikes against him. not to mention he has a weakness for high fastballs also. but when he does make contact, he can send it flying. he's even pretty decent in the clutch.

but with roberts moving over to left and cameron in center, i feel more comfortable now when our pitchers have close leads and something gets poked to the outfield. i just find it ironic that the stadium that cameron got injured and ended his season in is now his new home. hope everything works out. of course, with the padres history nady will go on to become a hero/star a la joe carter with the blue jays or kevin brown with the dodgers.

ok, that kevin brown one is a bad example. 😉

I thought the Mets were going to try and trade Cameron to the Boston Red Sox for Manny? Hmm...

i dunno about this trade...hopefully Minaya has a plan...its not like Nady is that young...he is 27, which makes him older then probably half the team!
