Does SSAA On mean 2x or 4x? For 2xSSAA that looks good at 1440P.

Clock 1070 core/ 1375 mem. As to SSAA the only option is on or off. I tried to enable the highest options to give a realistic realworld benchmark of 2 OC'd 290s in CF on a 2560 x1440 monitor.
You could try downsampling 2560x1440 on your 1080p monitor and give it a shot.2x Evga 770 SC ACX Sli'ed (exact same settings-) Using Nvidia's 344.11 driver which is AWESOME for Sli!!!

please ingnore the min framerate as it means nothing at all in a fly by bench. its just from changing scenes and that does not happen in the actual game.^minimum frames look horrible even at 1080p

hundreds of benchmarks I have seen will disagree with you. its comes down to the cpu and the hard drive in this flyby. again though its just the bench and has nothing to do with the actual game.AMD cards don't have that problem. :sneaky:

I'd guess that's 4xSSAA then. More impressive numbers in light of that.
FWIW in my experiments with the 290 I got minimal improvement with mem overclock from 1250 unless I got core over 1100. Generally afaik its best to push core to its peak and then see if mem can do anything. Might try the bench at 1070/1250 and compare to 1070/1375. On some cards mem really likes either 1250 or 1500 but not much in between.
Are you maxed on core at 1070 for 24/7 use?
Is this the Redux version of Metro:LL ? I could get away with 2xSSAA with decent frames, but I can't run SSAA in the Redux version, gives me really low frame rates. I think it is some sort of driver issue because it worked fine for me before.
I agree on the power draw. I found the sweet spot for me running CF is from 1070 to 1090 on the core. The Sapphire Tri-X is already upped from 947 to 1000. Adding the EK waterblocks helps keep it very cool including the VRM. However, as you creep up to above 1075 on core the incremental gains in power really are not there. I'm using MSI afterburner and "learning" how to tweek the R9 290s. When I had the single EVGA GTX 780 Classified, also watercooled, it took awhile to find the correct combo of core/mem/power for the best overall performance.There's a point on the cards where they really go nutso with power draw, +50mv was reasonable for me and from reading around seemed to get a lot of folks to 1100 or more on core, going up to +100mv was too severe for performance gain IME but saw folks taking that to 1150-1200 core.
Metro LL is a very pretty game, but a few areas really tore apart my frames when running SSAA even when I ran with 290 CF at 1080P. Swamp areas and generally anything outdoors was not doable locked to 60fps with SSAAx2 and Highest Tess setting. I was running 975core due to the cards being in HTPC where heat was a problem and saw some severe drops to 40's in some areas where I had to back out to settings and adjust (always hate doing this due to immersion break).

In addition, the last AMD card I had was a 6870? so I'm back to learning about AMD drivers.
One can take issue with why I would be running 2 R9-290s CF when it now appears that the GTX970 in SLI is the sweet spot. I answer by indicating that I already owned a Sapphire Tri-X 290 which I bought a few months ago used for @$290 delivered. I had a single classified and water cooled 780 in my rig below and the Tri-X in my FX8350 rig. Trying to find another 780 classified at a decent price was tough and then watercooling it would cost more. I found another used but almost new Sapphire Tri-X for the same price as the first one. Decided to move the classy to the FX8350 rig which also is custom water cooled. Makes better sense to run the 290s CF in the X79 rig.
All in all a work in progress. BTW, the EK blocks with the 3 port bridge work VERY well for CF/SLI in the Asus Sabertooth X79.
