Fans of the Metroid Prime games, as well as those who enjoy a good FPS/action title, are in for a treat this summer. Nintendo will be releasing the entire trilogy as a single-disc collection for the Wii in August.

Unsurprisingly named Metroid Prime Trilogy, the collection is set to be released on August 24, and will sell for $49.99. The disc will include Metroid Prime, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, but will have an updated control scheme for the first two games to make them compatible with the Wii's motion-sensing technology.

This would make a killer app for the enhanced motion control thingamajig that's coming out soon IMO. I always felt like the Prime 3 controls were a little jerky.

I thought you meant Metroid Metroid, not Prime. I'd love to see Metroid II get the same kind of makeover that we got with Metroid Zero Mission.

Wow.

Now if they release Metroid 2, Fusion and Zero Mission on virtual console on the DS and Wii, i'd be in Metroid heaven.

Looks nice. I will be snagging up this deal.

If this is true, that would be pretty awesome. The original Metroid Prime was an amazing game...the wonky controls are what hold it down by today's standards.

All three for $49.99? Wow, day one purchase. I have the first one, and played the first couple hours of the third. I still don't really like that Metroid has become a first-person game but that doesn't make these bad games.

More, "old game" releases from the big N. Sigh.

What's wrong with re-releasing old games? Sure, Nintendo isn't releasing anything new or exciting to go along with it (other than Wii Music, Wii Sports, Wii Fit) and that is an issue, but this is a great package.

But the OP says single disc...that is no single disc set. That set is beyond sweet, but its just an artists dream. The actual set will probably be quite a bit uglier.

Just got it for $30.

Fred Meyers had it for $30 in the Sunday ad. Went to Wal-Mart and got it price matched.

Awesome set. Metroid Prime looks nice. The visuals are really, really good. I mean this was on GameCube? Damn.

Visuals aside it's the gameplay that matters and the Wii controls make it better. Just set it to Advanced and Free look on. Swap the jump and fire button. It plays real nice. It just feels really natural.

I mean Metroid Prime 2 multiplayer online with Wii Speak would rock. But hey 4 player is fun too.
