Metrodome roof collapses under snow

Analog

The inflatable teflon roof of the Metrodome in Minneapolis has collapsed under the weight of snow after a heavy storm passed through Saturday, according to local media reports.
The roof's failure called into question the Minnesota Vikings' Monday night game against the New York Giants, which was already postponed after the Giants' flight was diverted Saturday to Kansas City as air travel was shut down in and out of Minnesota.
A photograph published on the website of KARE 11 TV shows the Metrodome in darkness, void of the familiar white expanse that normally covers the Vikings' stadium.

I thought the point of having a dome was to circumvent bad weather 😛

I guess this storm is a doozie though. Still gotta wonder if an inflatable roof is a good idea or not though. There has to be a better solution.

Wonder where/when the game will end up being played. Also wonder what game they'll show instead. I have vikings/giants recorded @ 11AM today 😛 - I guess direcTV guide is a bit behind the times.

I have tried to search to find what game will replace the vikes/gints with no luck.

So, what's the closest NFL stadium available? Soldier Field?

lambeau. i believe the patriots are playing in chicago, but the packers are playing in detriot. the problem is trying to get anywhere. after the storm passed through MN it hammered WI to. i think i live in the only place in WI that didn't get much snow. 20 minutes north, and west all got dumped on, but here in the Milwaukee area we got hardly anything...

Actually, I've been hearing the Univ. of Minnesota stadium is being considered.....but the Giants, thinking they were going to play in a dome, didn't bring their extreme cold weather gear. And outdoor temps are projected to be barely in single digits during the day in Minn.

Nice engineering, no need to account for the weight of snow when building a stadium in Minnesota.

To be fair this is the first time in my entire life I've ever heard of it happening. Almost 30 years without any real maintenance means the thing was probably designed pretty damn good to begin with.

I rememeber the days when foodball was play outdoors, in the cold, in the snow and they had to run uphill both ways. 😀

I think this is the 3rd time it has collapsed.

According to wikipedia (the worst source of info on anything) it collapsed once right after it was built in 1983. And that was only one small section. Since it hasnt happened since it looks like they immediately corrected the issue (after someone informed them it does in fact snow in Minnesota) and I'd say all this time without an issue is pretty good for what was probably overpriced, shitty quality union labor to begin with.

I'm pretty sure that happened here to BC Place. :hmm:

This sucks, I really wanted to see if they could keep the momentum going. That stinks for the fantasy players too. :hmm:

NFL networks seems to think the game will be played in Detroit. It's not only a close dome, Fox is covering todays Lions game there and could just stay and do the Gints/Vikes on Monday night.
As per NFL net, Goodell is having a conference call right now to decide.
