Metro 2033 and Last Light Redux uncovered

The first game looks so much more atmospheric in the first game then the new lightning does. I get that its more "advanced" but the dark gloomy look was perfect in its own right.

The redux is supposed to have much better optimizations, so you might be able to play it this time with acceptable performance..

Or, even better, you could you know, upgrade your hardware 🙂

One day.

Skyrim runs great even with hi-res mods from the Nexus. But some newer games just arent as smooth as I like. Especially titles with excessive particle lighting like Grid 2.

Not seen Redux but Metro Last Light is a 10/10

top ten best graphics in a game ever , no doubt

When is this out anyway ?

Agreed. I'm not sure about the Redux version, but vanilla Last Light, graphically, is a 10/10 as-is. And the Redux version is only going to get better, so... 😎

It comes out on the 26th (this Tuesday).

I enjoyed both games, and thought both were fine examples of good design for linear FPS gameplay.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. really does something for me that these games don't, however. Unfortunately, the potential for the series was never realized. Had the game had adequate budget and engine tech, it could have been astoundingly good.

Lost Alpha tried to capture the original vision, and really it was an amazing bit of work, but the content just isn't there. It's fun to walk around in those giant levels and dream of a game that could put it all together, but I don't think it's ever going to happen.

Is the discount for current 2033/LL owners only applicable prior to release or is it constant ? Wondering if I should pick it up tonight, it's out in a couple days I think.

Looking forward to playing 2033 again with the updates.

I think it's a pre-release deal only. So after the game releases, you're going to have to pay full price. I'm getting both of them!

Will wait for sales. Already own both, two of my favorite games. These will be $4.99 or less soon though, and I want to wait to play through them again once I get a new pc.

What exactly are these redux ? Do they actually add to the game stories and play or is it simply a graphic fix up? I really liked metro 2033/light but grapically they were already fine.

It's both games upgraded to newer engines with improved visuals, improved gameplay mechanics and a wider range of game modes.

Anyone playing these games yet? I can't get SLI to work in Metro 2033 Redux. Also PhysX isn't running on my dedicated PhysX GPU either 😵

Anyone else not seeing the full discount come up for this? I have both games on steam so I should be getting 50% off but it only shows 25%.

Edit:Ah nevermind saw that is the pre-order offer, got confused because it is still 25% off.

The 50% off deal was for pre-orders only. You missed it.

Had you read the thread, you'd have noticed some other people who already mentioned this.

I put that in my edit man, no need to be a dick about it. Today was the first day I saw the redux actually come up on steam so I didn't realize it was already out at first.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound like a dick.

And yeah, I just realized you edited your post like two minutes before mine. My bad.

Put in about an hour or so on 2033 redux so far. It looks a hell of a lot better! The only issue is SSAA is using more performance than it should imo. I can run 2x SSAA in Last Light and get about 50-60fps in most situations, but using the same setting in the 2033 Redux, I can't get over 30 for the most part.

Well I something is wrong with my game. I tried to play again today and it sent me back to the beginning 🙁 It did not save any thing from yesterday so I played 2 hours for nothing 🙁

There was a patch yesterday that was released that wiped out saved games.. I think the saves may be recoverable though..

The Redux versions not look incredible, they are WAY more optimized than the originals
They have done something really amazing here and other developers should take note - THIS is how you remaster a game

And thats just the graphics, because 2033 has a ton of gameplay improvements of all sorts that makes it much more enjoyable than the original (and similar to Last Light)

Then factor in that it includes all the DLC and stuff, its definitely worth it

Yeah, I agree that they've seriously improved the graphics and performance of the engine and the game it seems. Shadows, textures and the level of tessellation are the biggest standouts so far.

Also that last patch added volumetric lighting. The only thing so far is that I can't get the PhysX to run on my dedicated GPU..

I think it's running on the CPU so far, but since it's using the 3.3 SDK it's not causing any performance problems like in the original which used the 2.8 SDK.

The PhysX 3.3 SDK has far superior multi core use compared to the older 2.x SDK.. I guess the days of complaining about poor PhysX performance on the CPU is behind us! 😀

Also I got SLI working and the scaling is awesome!
