One of the most fundamental principles of evolutionary psychology is that women are much more selective than men in their mate choice. Because women pay far greater reproductive costs by making the wrong choice, women have been designed by evolution to be more cautious and choosier than men in mate selection.

Let me respond. Evolutionary psychology is complete bunk. There is not a single shred of evidence to back up anything they have published. It better fits in the realm of philosophy, except that it could not hold up to the rigors that field requires for publishing. The fact that any reputable journal published any evolutionary psychology article shows just how bad far our science journal's quality control has fallen in the pursuit of circulation.

You seem very unaware of human courtship. Women in modern society are the selectors. Men are the ones that court women, and as such, women are the goal of men. That dynamic fits the wolf and mouse as the mouse is the goal of the wolf.

You are twisting it and seeing the goal is the destruction of the mouse/woman, but, that would be wrong.

Almost all Evolutionary Psychology theories have multiple other theories that are observationally equivalent which tells us that they are not actually verifiable.

There is all sorts of problems with it. It is overly simplified. Women also pursue men. Women are not the selectors, they are a co-dependent decision maker. Women can not just choose a guy and say 'I'll take that one'. Courtship is not a hunt, it is a mutually beneficial social arrangement. The entire men versus women story is a myth you tell yourself to make you feel better about being rejected. The fact is both get a equal choice. Men and women choose who they want to date, the only difference is how they go about signaling their choices.

Furthermore, the metaphor does describe a predatory relationship. No one uses that metaphor to indicate a playful relationship. It is not fun for the mouse, and the wolf is not doing it for entertainment.
