My HT tumult

Friend loaned me his termlab sensor, so I've been playing around with it a little. With the sensor 2.5' away from the sub on top of my computer I put up 130.5db @ 35hz off of a 250w plate amp. Switched to my behringer EP2500 and put up 134.9db @ 35hz. It could go a little louder, more headroom on the amp, but I don't really feel like damaging the sub  At listening position, with the sensor on my couch 10' away, it was doing 122db @ 35hz without cranking it as high as I did for the 134.9 reading...

I had originally modeled the enclosure in winisd with a tuning of ~23hz, but I don't think my port length ended up long enough to get it down there. 22.7hz was the modeled -3db point, but it looks like it's more like 32hz.

Oh well, I'm happy :D

133.7db @ 36hz
134.9db @ 35hz
133.8db @ 34hz
131.9db @ 32hz
130.6db @ 31hz

Cool.

The enclosure looks a lot like SVS's box subs :)

Did you measure any lower than 31?

Yeah, it drops pretty quick. 25hz was down to about 116db at 2.5'. It's pretty unloaded at that point... I used to have a tempest tuned to something like 18hz and I just didn't like it for music. I love the response of my tumult for music as well as movies :)

I'm still , but cheers

I know you've fished before several times and I've not said anything, but I thought I'd say something this time.

Just because I didn't see your 1st reply, "shame on me," I knew that you would reply to a thread where I proclaim BOSE > * :p

Where is the meter maid?

This prevents penalties from standing waves? Sitting waves are smoother right? How do you fulfil these obligations anyways?

what about 30-20? Thats where a true sub comes alive.

I see in your post later you put up a few numbers saying it dropped off but i would be nice to get a range and see how bad it dropped off.

So why aren't there setups with like, a driver for every say 3hz from like 10 to 24,000khz then?

Sure, it'd be a bazillion dollars.. but wouldn't it be the most accurate reproduction possible?

Not much to hear at 20 hertz and below unless you listen to classical and test tones.

You'd have to have a lot of crossover circuits in there too. I'm not sure what the effects are when more complicated crossovers come in to play though.

Plenty to feel though in HT usage.

Because physics doesn't work like that....you have to worry about driver seperation, imaging, cancellation nodes....yadadadada

hmm, true.

Probably get to a point where.. there is no point.. pretty quickly.

the farther drivers seperate....the more trouble you run into in a hurry.... thats why you never see a ton of space between woofers/tweeters

I wish my physics classes were more cool stuff and less random crap.
