That ranks right up there with "tighter battery cover."

I can say with certainty I've never had trouble seeing the screen of either in the dark, with the backlight.

The handwriting recognition seems to be MUCH better on the Palm Vx ... but then again I upgraded from a PalmPilot Professional, which is waaay old ! So I am not sure how much better Palm Vx grafitti is compared to the more recent PalmIII's.

And yeah ... perhaps the main reason I chose Palm Vx over the PalmIIIxe (both of which have very similar specs) was its slim and elegant design ! Once I looked at both the Vx and IIIxe at a local store and actually had the Vx on my palm, my decision was made.

My suggestion to all the would be buyer of PalmOS devices will be to definitely visit a local store which has a good selection of both Palm and HandSpring devices, and actually try them out before you make your decision.

Back to the original topic. Vtech has a development information free on the OS. There are Linux ports for the Helio.
