Metalheads/Hard Rockers

SP33Demon

Lifer
Ok, so I had heard a lot of this band's older stuff but neglected to listen to their latest album... and dam, this song is a Perfect 10 in my head. Amazing sweeps, check. Progressive, check. Epic sound, check. Pretty good lyrics/singing in conjunction with some screaming, check. Replayability through the roof, check.

Protest the Hero - Bloodmeat

Post a metal or hard rock song that warrants a "Perfect 10" in your book.

Opeth - Windowpane
Opeth - The baying of the hounds
Katatonia - Dissolving bonds
Anathema - Panic
Opeth - To Bid you Farewell
Tool - Stinkfist
Demons & Wizards - Beneath These Waves
Green Carnation - Between The Gentle Small And The Standing Tall
Iron Maiden - Hallowed be Thy Name
Paradise Lost - Erased

Just to name a few. 😛

Personally it's a toss up between Lateralus and Third Eye as it is recorded on Salival, not Aenima.

I think Third Eye has an edge, just for being a live recording. It's so close tho that if you asked me later today I might give you a different answer.

I like 3rd eye too, but lateralus is epic for me in ways that 3rd eye will never be.

Similarly, however, Lateralus live is waaaaaaaaay sicker than 3rd eye live =P

That like, quarter note break right before the big closer makes the end soooooo much more ridiculous (if you watch the live vids you'll know what I mean)

See, now you got me second guessing my first choice... couldn't leave well enough alone, eh?

Well now since I can't decide between the two, im just gonna split the difference and say Tenacious D's "Tribute."

Tool - Lateralus

And I know this will probably offend some, but I think Vicarious is flawless as well.

Also, depending on the specific genre, I'll have to toss in...

Dimmu Borgir - Progenies of the Great Apocalypse

Cryptopsy - Graves of the Fathers

Stunning. The whole None So Vile album is perfect, but Graves is probably my favorite song off of it.

Basically, any Iron Maiden song.

🙂

my room back in high school (around 1985 or so)...

some items from my LP collection

I still maintain that Maiden made much better decorations than music 😉 Admittedly, Trooper is pretty cool.

I'd have to say that Master of Puppets is up on my list near the top.

i'd have to respectfully disagree...steve harris is one of the best bass players out there and the guitar work of dave murray and adrian smith back then was just fvckin' awesome...definitely one of the more talented bands out there, at least back in the day...

i don't have any maiden stuff after bruce left...

Yep, while I love Maiden and do agree that they have at least more than a few Perfect 10 songs in my book (LOVE Hallowed, Aces, and Powerslave), the current crop of guitarists (like in my OP) far surpasses them in complexity/talent.

Oh, I'll not deny their abilities, just their.. appeal. Perhaps if I were a few years older - I think I just missed them growing up. Megadeth and Metallica were much more my time.

Flo Mournier is a god amongst ordinary drummers 🙂
