metal shavings in my oil filter

I cut open the oil filter from my last oil change and there's a small amount of metal flakes and shavings in my filter.

I'd probably just attribute this to the fact that it's the first oil change on a new car. It's a good thing I followed the breakin instructions or else I'd be running around those shavings in my engine at high rpms for atleast one pass. :Q

manual says just baby it for the first 600 miles. I tried to ease it through the first 1000.

My dad used some machine at his work. He works for an aerospace company which manufactures hydraulic components.

I don't think the shavings are from cutting because they're buried deep in the pleats of the oil filter.

Eh, I had metal shavings when I did the first oil change on the H22. I think some of them may have been from the tranny tho, not sure.

I drained both since I had to pull the motor, remember? And engine oil in the trans

you're not supposed to change the oil until 7,500 miles doing normal driving or 3500 under stressful conditions

I have a 2003 I4 LX auto sedan. My dad helped me a bit, since it's an unfamiliar car. I expect from now on though I'll do it myself as I have in the past.

Yeah actually I've driven the car hard a couple times and in retrospect I probably should have waited until atleast after the first oil change just to be extra safe.

I've been trying to keep mine below 4,000 RPMS but sometimes it just goes!! I have 100 miles on mine.

Well, for any oil change, it's pretty much drain, replace plug, replace filter (remember to put oil on the gasket of new filter), fill up how much the manual says to and then check dipstick.

For the I4 engine, the oil filter is on the back facing the the firewall. I don't know where the filter is on the V6.

I used castrol 5w-20 GTX and a honda OEM filter. If you buy your filters from honda, make sure they don't say "by fram" on them. If they do, give them back.
