Metal roses are available! Great Christmas present!

Mods, if this is inappropriate let me know how I should advertise it. There was enough interest in the threads I made about these before that I think a new thread is appropriate. FS/T rules prohibit linking to EBay auctions so I put it here.

Link to E-Bay auction

I decided to sell these using an EBay dutch auction since I don't really know how much they're worth. They're made out of hard drive platters and they take about two hours to complete. Bidding starts at $30 and there are 5 available. It's a 3-day auction so if they're popular I'll put 5 more up. Either way, you will get these in time for Christmas assuming you pay promptly.

At least you found a use for all those empty beer cans 😀

Yeah, forgot to mention that. Edited now. They're made out of hard drive platters.

Interesting. Were you by chance the guy buying dead hard drives in FS/T? 🙂

I tried making one of those, but I got hasty in cutting and made one of the outer petals look too small. I then tried working around with it too much and managed to break one of the joints. Damn hard drive.

Ah-ha! I knew it. Sounds like you found yourself a nice little money-making niche. Good luck with it. 🙂

I'd buy one if I had the money, but I blew it all tonight on my girlfriend's birthday.

I tried to make one myself, but great googly moogly did I ever screw it up. My tin snips were dull and the platters were extremely brittle.

May I suggest using a pneumatic nibbler instead of tin snips? It wont be all jaggedy, and they are dirt cheap.

I tried cutting it with my dremel but it was too difficult since I don't have a vise or anything to hold the dremel still while I cut. Plus it's hard to make the really tight cuts. It's hard to tell from pictures if a pneumatic nibbler would work any better.

I smooth the edges with a grinding tip on my dremel so they're not rough. Two of the roses in the pictures were made before I had my dremel so the sanding on them isn't quite as good. Those aren't being sold.

A pneumatic nibbler is alot different then a dremel.

Also they might be cheap but then you would have to get an air compressor if you dont have one already.

couple things

while cool, $40? I mean im sure it cost you that much.. but that's $

Also, totally wrong forum. Post in FS/FT at $40 shipped.

In a box filled with styrofoam peanuts. I'll play football with a rose packed that way to test it before I ship it, but I don't anticipate any problems. They've fallen off the top of my bookcase without suffering any ill effects. The packages will be insured in case significant damage does happen.

It takes me about 2 hours to cut it out, sand it down, bend it, and put it together. I decided to use EBay because if they become popular, better for me. If they're not popular, same effect as $40 shipped in FS/T. I don't have enough free time to make a lot of these. Besides, I looked around and I couldn't find anything similar to this for sale online. The closest items I found were far more expensive.

I made one of these back when you told us all how and mine didn't come out quite as good lol.

Anyway IMo this is a great deal I mean yeah 40 is a bit more but this really is something that NO one esle will have or get and who can pass up a gift for a modern mom that is just irreplaceable? Im definately think im going to pick one of tese up from you b/c its a great idea and yours look better
😀
