Metal fabrication - How much?

One of our family's long favorite toys managed to snap one of it's plastic "bits" yesterday, and it's one of those things that we need to get fixed - Have a new baby now, and she's going to want to play with it (a ride-on train that hoots as you push it along). If it's at all possible, I'd like to get it repaired. It was made in the 70's or 80's. Looking at the cheapo plastic I'm amazed that it didn't break before now. The part is about a foot long, 3/4 in tall, very thin, with a few bends and various angles, in addition to one open slot that runs through about 1/3 of it. I have the broken piece and there's an identical (but opposite one) to use as a model, too.

The only thing I can think of is a metal fabricator, but I don't know how much it would cost. Any thoughts?

I'd see if you have a technical school that's close to you. If they teach metal-working, maybe, they'll take on the task for free.
