Messing with the MIS department

So the MIS department likes to uninstall FF from people's computers and monitor who is visiting the web using it, I'd like to write a small app that will make IE appear as FireFox when visiting websites - not too the websites, but to our MIS department.

Anyone have any ideas?

If you need help bypassing company IT policies then you also need a different forum.

Actually, I love my job.

You don't play office pranks?

I'd hardly call that a prank, that's bypassing company policies to make your MIS department do more work. A prank is wrapping someones cube in bubble wrap, or putting tape over their optical eye on the mouse.

Well, I apologize if I hit a sore spot for you, but I bet the time to figure this out equates to about the same amount of time as un-bubble wrapping a cube, or having to pick up about 300 3/4s filled cups of water all over someones desk.

Wouldn't this just be a case of them just looking for firefox.exe running instead of iexplorer.exe or even sniffing browser agent headers, skinning or obscuring would not help one bit?

Initially I was wondering whether in their log of HTTP activity they were storing something, but I guess that was stupid of me.

Yes, they are just tracking which programs are running, anyway to change how the name appears?

Hahaha... uh, no.

This is indistinguishable from disguising any other piece of software to get past company policies. The first kid to get truly good and busted for releasing a worm did it as a prank as well. If you really intend to try this I presume you are _very_ secure in your position.

And if you do intend to try it, please don't request any more advice here.

But do tell us how it turns out.
