Messed up my Raid 0 by installing Intel Matrix Storage :( PLZ HELP!

Hi, I did a stupid mistake today by installing Intel Matrix Storage... My raid 0 drive needs to be formatted now in order to be accessed. I have lots of stuff there and really don't want to loose it! Tried uninstalling Intel Matrix Storage and restarting pc, but still it asks me to format the hard drive 🙁 So I went into bios, played around with storage settings and after setting it to IDE Enchanced my raid hard drive is accessible again with all the partitions! Can you guys help me with this? I'm not sure if IDE is right for me since I had it set to RAID before. Even though everything seems fine with IDE....

OS: Windows 7 professional 64bit
Motherboard: Asus P6T Deluxe
CPU: i7 920

I'm not sure I understand. The array got messed up and was unreadable, but now you can read from it?

If so, it's pretty obvouse that the first next step would be to make a backup set. If you continue without a backup, you should expect to loose whatever is on the array, and it should come as no surprise.

Agreed. I don't understand either. If you changed it to IDE than the partition must be unreadable again. Can you explain better what you had and what you did?

I'm not sure how to even explain this... My motherboard (p6t deluxe) has 2 raid controllers (Intel and Marvell). I think before installing this
Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager Driver V8.9.0.1023 for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.(WHQL) Intel(R) AHCI/RAID Driver Disk for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.
Intel(R) Matrix Storage Manager Driver V8.9.0.1023 for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.(WHQL)
Intel(R) AHCI/RAID Driver Disk for Windows 32/64bit XP & Windows 32/64bit Vista & 32/64bit Windows 7.
I was using Marvell.
Now when my computer set to IDE boots, after bios loads, it says this
Initializing Raid Controller [OK]
and proceeds to windows.
These are my hard drives:
WDC WD1001FALS-00J7B0 ATA Device
WDC WD1001FALS-00J7B0 ATA Device
WDC WD1500HLFS-01G6U0 ATA Device
I use the two same ones for Raid0.
I don't know how come but for some reason everything is working fine in IDE...

I think the easiest and fastest thing to do would be to break down the array, and rebuild it with the settings you want to use. You will loose all data on the array, but can easily just restore it from your backup.

It's a lot of data 🙂 don't have where to back up this much. For now I'll stick to IDE raid until I get enough of back up space.

Wow, you aren't in the least worried about putting data that you don't want to lose on a RAID 0 array? It's just a matter of time.

Don't throw away your data. You likely can recover all of it!

Try using Ubuntu Linux livecd first, to:
1) boot Ubuntu LiveCD
2) when asked click Try Out Ubuntu
3) click menu Places->Home
4) in the window that opens, in the left panel you should see "... GB Filesystem" with an eject icon next to it; click on that (not the eject icon but the text).
5) now you should see all your data

Won't work if your partitions are corrupted, but worth a try and if it works it's really simple. If not, you can consider using FreeBSD recovery; which i can help you with.

I thought people running RAID 0 understood the data loss potential.

No matter if you run RAID 0 or a single drive...
If your data is important to you, have it backed up to a different storage source.

Nothing is corrupted, I just can't access my raid0 hd when in bios storage settings Raid mode is set. In IDE mode everything is working perfectly, I can access all my data just like I was in Raid mode. My two hard drives are seen as one big hd. I believe that happened because I installed Intel raid controller driver while was using Marwell raid controller/driver and that's why it's telling me to format the hd to access it....

You can buy storage for next to $0.05/Gb. If your data is worth more than a nickle per Gb, I advise turning off the computer, and not running it again till you have enough storage to save whatever is worth more than backup storage. You can count yourself very lucky that you risked all your data, and that it has survived so far, but I can assure you; all your data is at serious risk.

Running a single disk without backup is risky.

Running a RAID array without backup is more risky.

Running a RAID 0 array without backup is careless.

Messing with a RAID 0 array without a backup is asking the universe for a dish full of sorrow.
