I appreciate the excerpt from the FAQ, however this is the "Forum Issues" forum and disappearing messages is indicative of potentially greater problems. I was alerting Mods of that problem.

Actually, I don't think it is a big problem. Zuni goes through the database and cleans out a lot of the old messages to cut down on size. This is done every so often, and I'm sure that's where the thread you were looking for went.
 
I've just hit the same problem that BCinSC described with an active For Sale thread that I had over in the For Sale/For Trade forum. I had bumped it yesterday, but it was gone when I went to bump it just now.

This is the second or third time that I've run into this particular problem with "current" threads that I was participating in. I agree with BCinSC -- it seems like there may be a greater problem lurking under the covers.
 
There is not a problem, either a mod or admin deleted the thread, or its in the archives or it was permanently removed during a clean up. Asking an admin or mod to find it is like asking someone to find a needle in a haystack. 4 million messages finding 1 just isn't going to happen.
