The correct quote is:

So very true.

The government is handing out free money with zero accountability and you expect people to act ethically...especially Wall Street people, whose job is to find every possible loophole and avenue for making money?

These people's names and addresses should be published.

What would you do if they were?

I say we publish their names and then publish everybody's name that's on welfare or government assistance, then we start telling people that are on government assistance what they can or can't buy.

We make them buy generics only.....

That'll learn em ;)

They may be right.

I've been thinking of giving myself a bonus.... pull all my money out of the banks while I still can because I've had it with the crap that's going on.

In other words, if you can bring $100M worth of deals, you can and will get a job that pays more than 500K/yr

Yeah I am sure all those ppl are bringing hundred millions worth of deals. Wait how the hell did they lost $15 billion if there were that many hundred million deals brought in by all those people.

weren't they contractually obligated to pay the bonuses or something?

I never really understood Wall St. salaries where bonuses are worked into planned compensation instead of actually being a bonus.

Yes. All this frothing at the mouth is moot.

frontline had a show about bank of america merger with merrill lynch

basically the merill lynch folks were the typical new york financial folks, so they expected bonuses for doing the deal. bank of america was based in charlotte and they were furious the lynch folks having run their company into the ground would then argue for bonuses for doing a deal.

when ken lewis was under pressure and about to get fired. boa released the bonus information to get the heat off boa and onto merrill lynch. then they fired john thain.

for merrill lynch shareholders it does appear that john thain got a well deserved bonus because he tricked boa into paying more than it was worth.

boa tried later to get out, but the government wouldn't let them. then the fed basically made boa whole by giving a bailout to them.

so basically the taxpayer paid, and the merrill profited. for boa it's a wash.

it's pathetic these assholes aren't in jail for collapsing the american economy. instead they're profiting from it on the way down.

taking away their money won't do much.

they need to take away their livelihoods as they have done to many americans and place them in maximum security prisons, not cushy minimum security prisons, because they should be classified as extremely dangerous individuals.

the only way to make the US whole is by heavily taxing financial businesses and workers wealth, then putting that money into social security. that's the only way the public will get their money back.

You can blame Ken Lewis for a lot of stuff ...

but you can't blame him for the Big Ass Mess that John Thain made of ML.

The Big Questions:

1) Did Thain lie to Congress?;
2) Did Thain hide ML losses and lie to BOA?; and
3) Did Thain lie to the directors at ML or conspire with them?
