Merging video files

Is there any good(free) software out there to take 2 avis or mpegs and turn them into one file?

I'd try a search at CNet, there is bound to be a number of such utilities. In my internet travels I have come across an mpg joiner called Joiner, all mpgs need to be part of a split series.

Here you'll find utilities for AVI and mpg files which also probably do what you want.

At the DOS prompt:

copy /b /v file1.mpg+file2.mpg+file3.mpg newfile.mpg

you can try HJsplit (a freebie prog from www.freebyte.org)
rename the files to include a .001, .002, etc. extension AFTER the true extension & make sure the rest of the name is exactly the same, then join them.
