Banned in theory... In practice, it doesn't stop me from seeing a limit on CC transactions anyway. Most of these are mom and pop stores or convenience stores, most likely a 1$0-20 minimum.
The gas station I fill up at offers a regular price per gallon and a cash only price which is $05-.10 cheaper per gallon. Biz owners will usually find a way to not lose money to CC companies, even if it means direct defiance of the rules.
I always avoid the places that try to charge different between cash and not though.
This is what I don't understand. If it saves you money to use cash, why not? Eventually you learn which places give cash discounts and start incorporating having cash on you as part of your routine when you shop.
So you should get rewards on your CC, and the merchant should always take it in the pants?
They could easily just rase the base cost of all goods, but then that effects everyone.
Again, the only time I see this already in CA is at small liquor stores, and they usually have a $10 minimum to pay by plastic without getting a $.50 fee.
Unfortunately that's doubtful. Most people could not give up the convenience. (I personally can and will. Fuck paying fees)

This. I will purposely write a check for each transaction and will not start filling it out until the total shows up on the register and all of my items are packed back into the cart. If an online retailer tries this, business gone. I will not give out my debit card online, period.
If they want the business, they can pay the charges....otherwise, piss off.
