Mercedes to Chrysler: Bye Bye!

YES! I'll be able to buy a new Jeep someday without sending my money to a company that made Hitler's war possible and profitted directly from genocide.

Yeah. One little thing that blows the above quoted complaint. Rocket technology.

Mercedes got raped overall in the Chrysler acquisition. Only $7.4B?

They certainly did...but they needed to cut their losses. The company as a whole is making a ton of money except for Chrysler. I think they did the right thing (buying them was obviously the wrong thing...but selling them before they self imploded was a good idea). I don't see how Cerebus thinks they are going to turn the company around. With the exception of Jeep...are there any good Chyrsler cars??? I can't think of one.

May I ask, how old are you?

I do agree that they needed to cut their losses, I'm just surprised they took such a haircut on the turnaround of Chrysler - Chrysler must be in a really bad way.

My Sebring has given me no trouble in the past three years. Their minivans have the stow and go seating that's pretty handy.

I think they are. They have a lot of the health care problems that GM and Ford have, but they also have not gotten the same deals from the Union's and such that Ford and GM have had on reducing cost. It will be a difficult road for Chrysler.

Well if you consider they have the best selling minivan of all time, the Charger and the soon to be out Challenger, and the Ram series pickups, I'd say their Dodge division is doing alright.

They have a lot of cars that look good on paper, but are frequently plagued by the same problems. Things like interiors so cheap they make GM look luxurious. They've also been quite low on the reliability scale (unlike GM and Ford, it's a lot more than just perception).

I can't believe Mercedes even bought Chrysler back in the day. What a stupid move by a great German company. Motto: Don't buy American companies 🙂

When was the last time they updated their minivan? The Honda and Toyota models are significantly better these days.

We have two 300's at work with their 3.5L V6. The interior is certainly better than past cars...but not near Athlon's that I've been in. Not to mention that the cars are falling apart and neither of them have are more than 2 years old...both have well under 30K miles on them and are lightly used.

The Charger and all of Dodge's styling has been sub par from my perspective for a while. The Challenger looks nice (although a little to retro for me) and the new roadster show car (Demon?) looks decent...but they really need to improve their overall look overall.

As for pickups...I think they are competitive (although the interiors are no where near GM, Ford, or Toyota)...but this is not the money maker it once was...they need to focus on their automobiles.

while true.. I'd rather the new Dodge truck interiors over the new Ford F-series interiors... when the new generation came out, I was so disgusted at how much they felt like a Lincoln inside. Now, normally can that be a complaint? Not normally: a classy interior on an another wise non-classy vehicle. However, I am not a fan of it. However, the Ram series pickups need a little bit a change.
The Challenger.. well I'm going to bite my lip until they display the production model next February. While Chrysler Group says they keep the production model very similar to all their concepts of the same thing, it should be noted that is not true when looking to past Dodge concept-to-productions as of lately: concepts
notable among those are the Charger and Avenger. The Charger, well, the production model is quite different from the concept. Likewise for the Avenger, notably changed when it was unveiled somewhat recently.
Hopefully the Challenger doesn't change much, particularly the interior which looks quite comfy as of now. The exterior, as long as it maintains the current stylistic choice, I shall be happy. If it departs too much from the current style of the concept, hopefully it's for the better, unlike the Charger. While the Charger has a mean appearance, I am not happy after the concept looked so much better. I still hate the choice of making it a sedan over a coupe, but I guess that's here to stay. And now they really can't offer a coupe version of the Charger, when the Challenger is so close to retail.
Now Dodge will finally have competition for the Mustang, which has pretty much gone unchallenged by the US automakers, in terms of the pony car of the days. (price/performance)
