I was just watching this on GMA (Good Morning America), and was laughing my *** off! They had a Scientist on there to explain how the chemical reaction occurs, and apparently it has to do with the surface of the candy, the powder coating, and the carbonate in the soda. They showed some videos circulating around of kids doing this trick which kinda reminds me of the "Volcano" experiment my kids got a kick out of when they were little. However this is like a major Geyser explosion of soda.

The Scientist and GMA peeps said if you eat mentos and drink soda, you will vomit.

Thanks for the link. I was just picturing all those kids who think its funny to eat a bunch of these Mentos candy, then swallow the soda, just for the "Exorcist" effect. What they showed in the bottles was pretty explosive like the videos on the web.
