lol, I just knew someone would come out in favor of convicted felons being able to own guns.

Just knew it.

Blanket gun bans are silly. "Felon" can describe a wide range of people... .not just murderers, robbers, and rapists.

There are plenty of people who made mistakes when they were young and live honest lives today.

There are plenty of felons who are better suited for gun ownership than lots of ATOT gun nuts who go around P&N spouting hate speak left & right.

What bothers me is that it seems like no considers two possibilities:
1) He was abused by his mother and killing her was the end result; or
2) He was born with bad wiring, but never treated (or insufficiently, obviously) for some unknown reason.

I'm glad he is in custody. It's unacceptable that he was able to obtain firearms. I wonder what is wrong with that guy, and can it be fixed? Because both abuse victims and messed up kids are not so rare that we shouldn't be trying to find ways to reach out to treat those kids long before they become dangerous adults.

It says he killed his mom in 1995 at the age of 14 by shooting her 5 times w\ a shotgun.

Now... I personally don't believe that's something you come back from. You don't kill your mom at the age of 14 and then become a functioning member of society.

This guy likely would have found other ways to kill people even if he couldn't get a hold of any guns.

No. Shootings and mass shootings in particular are not murders, they are shootings committed by shooters. Murderers murder in a variety of ways, knives, bombs, bare hands, etc. Shooters only use firearms to kill, and gun control eliminates those deaths entirely.

I mentioned in another thread that Sandy Hook would have been far worse if he went in there samurai style and sliced and diced as opposed to shooting them. I was intensely rebuked.

I believe when he was ruled mentally ill and dangerous he was diagnosed with schizophrenia. Certainly that is an illness that can be controlled through medication, but given his recent writings about violent fantasies, and his apparent interest in the Sandy Hook shootings, combined with his murderous past, makes it pretty clear (at least to anyone who is thinking clearly) that he should not be able to own guns.

If he's dangerous he shouldn't be on the streets. Gun or no guns. You guys act like guns are only way to kill ppl. It's not. Most deadly school killing ever was done with freely available as long as you show up with a DOT approved can, petro not guns. Guns can stop crazy though.

What is he doing on the streets then?

Thats my liberal friends fault. OMG he was just a baby get him help and let him go. Sorry some crime are beyond the pale and they need to be removed permanently from society.

Because too many members of society have some naive notions that 14 year old 'child' who murders his own mother in cold blood can be reformed into a super successful philanthropist. Get rid of the 18 year old 'reset' and start treating the criminally 'insane' murderers the same as the other murdering animals.

Sad to read the other ideas. I figured he was just put on the streets when the money wasn't there to continue his care. Seemed more likely to me than the other hypotheses.
