mens fashion tips

I keep spending loads of money on clothes that don't look good. The problem is that I have no idea what clothes look good on me and I right now I have no female to tell me. I mean I have no sense of what looks good, but I know what looks bad. do you have any tips or websites about how to look good?

Learn how to match colors.
Be comfortable.
Start your wardrobe with the basics, don't spend $800 on that one of a kind "gottahaveit" coat while you are still walking around with holey jeans and sneakers.
Be comfortable.

You have to be comfortable in your own skin and how you look first, then you will have your own style.

eh....I don't know, it seems to me that only celebrity gay guys are well dressed. the gay guys at my school mostly wear lots of black and weird spikey things that don't look good

aren't there some websites that have info for nerds about how to dress well?

You don't know of ANY females that would help? I'm sure you know at least 1 & they all love to shop (it's not a stereotype, it's fact).

My quick tips I've learned over the years:

Belt & Shoes must always match
wear a belt
keep shoes clean & no scuffs
avoid anything flashy or tachy (sp?)
be sure they fit - NO nuthuggers or thug stuff
as for matching look at displays - this skill comes with time

My wife hates to shop.

so do you guys have some specific combos of clothes that you always wear together because they look good together?
I usually just pull out whatever's in the closest/drawer and put it on, and every once in a while I see myself in a mirror and think "that looks pretty good"

My GF will not go to the store unless she knows exactly what she is getting so she can get out AFAP.

Wearing same color clothes are a big no no. Pants and shirt colors should never ever match. They should contrast. Don't wear a blue shirt, and then wear a blue jean. You will look like you are in uniform.

If you do, stop wearing those "Traditional" Levis jeans. You know, the ones with solid colors and taper towards the legs.

Notice that most retailers sell jeans which have faded colors, have that "slept in" feeling, and are the "Relaxed Fit" cut. That stuff is in. Don't go into the extremes though as A&F does, theirs look second hand! Make sure the jeans are boot cut, and either relaxed fit or relaxed boot fit.

Vintage looking clothes are in, and the prep look is out. No more khakis and polos. If you have to wear khakis, don't wear those traditional Hagar and Docker ones. Look at their newer styles. Khakis are OK once in a while.

Long sleeve shirts with nice patterns are cool, like these. So are shirts with stripes.

Stop tucking in your T-shirts and polos. They should be a little below your waist level. If they are longer, then they are too big for you.

No huge jackets which make you look like you are packing 20 kilos of coke. Jackets should fit nicely. Same with sweaters.
