I wouldn't say knock off more like different spectrum if that makes any sense. I would say this game is a tad more detailed and involved than COH. First off the game is absurdly hard, I was playing the demo and couldn't beat it. haha... Though the demo showed me how good the game is. I also play the beta for the multiplayer. The game is more tactical and more involved than coh. Have you ever played the old game commandos? Its like that , you get a group of soldiers and everything in the mission is up for grabs. What ever is on map, whether it is vehicles, the stuff in the vehicles and of course looting the dead for anything they got. I own the game and got it for 10 dollars from amazon I think 5 dollars is def worth the price if this is your kind of a game. Where it takes lots of planning out and saving the game to get through it. I would look for the demo and give that a shot, I could see how some may not like it.

Its not much like CoH at all, the original one "soldiers heros of WWII" was awesome, men of war is pretty good as well.

Its like commandos meets CoH.

I'm sure people have bought worse games for more money. Reading about it, pretty much all reviews say it's super realistic and things act like they do in real life and it's super difficult and you have to love micro-managing. It says that casual gamers should stay away from this game as the difficulty will turn off most people but if you can deal with that then it's one of the best strategy games ever. I jumped on it as it's only $11.89 for both and I'm always up for some new strategy games that get decent reviews that are cheap.

It's a much more realistic version of CoH in just about every aspect. Makes for a very different game.

Despite being a good game, the controls are rubbish, voice action is horrible and micro managing 20 to 100 guys to pickup/loot extra weapons & supplies is just unforgivable. They should have stuck to classic controls and added some sort of auto loot option with filters (eg, pick up 3 nades and replace weapon).

I was going to pick it up, but jeez, micromanaging is the absolute opposite of what I find fun. I mean, sometimes I hate my job because of it. I don't need that at home too.

Thanks guys.

Oh, and the campaign is co-op as well (you start out with all levels unlocked so you can pick and chose what you want to play).

Men of war is NOTHING like Company of Heroes. It is a completely different game, and in SOME ways BETTER by far, but only in single player mode.

I beat the whole game, all campaigns for every "race", and thoroughly enjoyed it. The games is brutally hard, but you need to make heavy use of the slow/speedup time feature, and this really helps. After all it's a mechanic built into the game, why not use it? Manual control over single units helps immensely as well. You can even time when a grenade thrown by your soldier will explode! It's amazing... I love the ability to constantly loot corpses and blown up vehicles... I love collecting huge piles of loot. I really enjoy taking over vehicles and using them against the enemy.

For $5 the game is easily worth it. There is now an expansion available called "RED TIDE". It's more of the same, but easily just as good in every way. The campaign is great if you know Russian WWII history. Otherwise you might find some parts not to your liking. Men of War is by far not the 1st game in the series. There were other older games before this one, you can find them on gamespot if u search for Men of War and look at the sidebar. I intend to beat them all.

Care to back up that statement? Especially when the game costs $5?

Well, I really say that because it took me about 4 minutes until A. the micromanagement/difficulty/terribleGUI and B. the home made sound effects and TERRIBLE I repeat TERRIBLE speech in the game drove me completely nuts... IMO it isn't worth anything.

The only thing that I did not really enjoy about the game was the horrible voice acting and constantly getting my ass kicked. Overall, for $5 I think it is a great deal.

The micromanagement is what killed it for me.. I totally dig coming up with a good plan and placing my units, but when win/lose is decided based on me taking control of a single unit, then 'bleh'.. totally ruined it for me when I ran into this. You're basically placing useless meatbags around the map and then taking control of them at specific times to be able to win.

Same feelings here. I got it for about the same price but just haven't been able to get into it.

I disagree with the above 4 posters. Winning is not just about using individual units. Manual control is just a feature that gives you more control of the game. Voice acting is indeed bad, but who cares? It's the game play that matters.

Homemade sounds? No. Sounds are just fine. The talking is lame, yes. But sounds of gunfire and stuff are ok.

I grabbed the demo and remembered why it was never purchased. The graphics are beutiful but I got sick of the cheesy plotline and Russians with British accents.

Soldiers heros of WWII was a bit better, it had germans with german accents russians with russian accents etc.
