For example:

If Motzart was cloned, more than likely the parents would push this child to be into the piano and other music. If Michael Jordan was cloned, the parents may push this child into doing sports activities. And, what if that child didn't like those kinds of things. They may have the same genetic makeup, but not the same personality. Not the emotional problems with having someone who looks exactly like you, more of the pressures of being like someone. Just because you look like someone else doesn't mean you will have the same personality. I don't think people understand this from what I have read. For example one article I read told of this man who wanted to clone his dying mother because he wanted to be able to give her the opportunities she didn't get as a child. I don't really believe that he understood that the clone would not be his mother, just nearly a duplicate in the genetics. In another article I read, a women wants to clone the child she lost, I think mostly because she wanted that child back, but of course she would only have someone who looked like her child, but would probably have a different personality. Your personality comes not only from your parents, but also the enviroment you grow up and live in.

Sorry so long winded....I could debate about this for hours!! :)

X+Y = male
X+X = female
Y+X+X = female, but more muscular
Y+Y+X = male
Y+Y = the embryo dies in the womb

XX = Normal Female
XY = Normal Male
XXY = Kleinfelter's Disease (male) --> Delayed motor skills speech and maturation, late puberty, small testicles, infertile, below average IQ
X = Turner's Syndrome (female) --> Infertile, below average height, underdeveloped sex organs, some have heart anomalies
XYY = XYY Syndrome (male) --> Above average height, delayed mental maturation, above average activness
XXX = Triple-X Syndrome (female) --> delayed development of motor skills, speech, mental maturation
YY = Inviable
Y = Inviable

Karyotypes with a Y chromosome are always male. Atleast one X chromosome must be present for the embryo to survive. The normal human Karyotype is 46,XX or 46,XY. Kleinfelters would look like 47,XXY, Turner's would be 45,X. These are all example of disorders arising from mutations or defects in the germ cells. Many disorders such as Tay-Sach's disease and Cystic Fibrosis come from mutations in the somatic (non-reporductive) cells.

I see what you mean now. Yes, it's pretty ignorant of people to think that if a people looks like someone they know, then this person must be this exact same person. But isn't it the same with twins? They both look the same, but mentally they aren't similar, they'll both like other things.

Anyway, we have absolutely no use for cloning of complete Humans now, or in the future. The only useful application of cloning would be growing new organs, tissue and limbs for someone who needs a transplantation. Wouldn't it be great if everyone who needs a transplant can get an organ, tissue or a limb made totally out of his own cells? No more medicines would be needed to avoid rejection of foreign tissue and there would only be a waiting time as long as it takes for the tissue to grow, thus an unlimited supply would be available.

Thanks for adding and correcting, Gooberlx2 :)

I see that I need to brush up my knowledge on this subject.

I believe there are many benefits to cloning, however not at this time. Science is not advanced enough. Anyways, I feel that yes twins are somewhat like clones, but I feel that a parent may treat them differently than a real child. Say for example you were a clone of Michael Jordan, don't you think you may be pushed more growing up to succeed in sports rather than not knowing you were great at sports? This would probably cause a lot of emotional damage because the clone may not like sports, even though they were clone of a greater basketball player.

Don't worry. As long as there are Saturday nights and Bud Lite, there will always be a need for both sexes! ;)

Yes, if people would force such a clone to perform exactly like its 'original', then problems would arise. A good example is (still) 'Boys from Brazil' :)

great! 60 years from now, all the hot 25 year old women will have no males to mate with, and will have to track down us old farts if they want sex.

Um, you people need to read the article so you know whats going on.

1)Its not cloning
2)There would no longer be a need to mate period.
