Just got my 1.6a up and running on an Asus P4B533-E, bios 1008. I'm using a stick of 512MB XMS3000c2 v1.1 (black heatspreader), and it doesn't seem to be running up to specs. The 1.6a is a nice one, does 2.4 at default voltage, boots at 2.8 1.7v.

I can't seem to run at DDR400 at any setting, even 3/3/3/7, without getting a ton of errors in memtest86. This stuff is supposed to run at DDR350+ at 2/2/2/5, but I can't even get DDR300 at those settings (150fsb 1:1). I'm running it at DDR300 2/3/3/7. What's interesting is that the errors seem to all be coming from a specific range in the memory address...335MB to 352MB. Could it be that this stick is defective at this memory location?

So I guess my question is when you get memtest errors, do they occur throughout the stick, or are they concentrated in a certain location?

stock specs for the xms3000 is CAS 2-3-3-6 @ 370mhz ddr.
change your settings to cas 2.5-3-3-7 til you are sure its stable then go ahead and tweak your settings.

yeah that happened to me, i had gotten a bad stick of mushkin... UNSTABLE... ran MemTest....... errors in a specific spot of the memory every time, and didnt matter WHICH memory settings i used, i set everything to highest latencies and still unstable..........

Called up mushkin, they sent me a new stick........worked like a charm, no more stablility issues, no more memtest errors.

You need to see about RMAing that stick.

Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a go later tonight. But what about the coincidence that all the errors are located so closely together? When you test your ram and they start failing, do the errors occur randomly throughout the stick?

No. like i said. . they occur in a specific spot everytime......... like one of the memory chips is bad, but the others arent.

Thanks for the info Zsouthboy. I think I'll have to try to RMA it. Need to find a temp stick first, since this is my main pc.

BTW, the quoted reply above was to Thugs, I didn't see your post til after I posted it ;)
