Memtest & Prime - How long should I run them?

How long should I run Memtest for to burn-in new (replacement for my faulty ones) memory?

How long should I run Prime for? Which particular test? Can I still use the computer for normal tasks while running Prime?

I personally wouldn't use either unless you are having problems. Nothing wrong with it, but IMO it's just a waste oftime. But if you feel the need, 24 hrs. for both with no errors should satisfy anybody.

Try the torture test for Prime.

You can do other stuff while the tests are running, but it might get slower.

A good thing to do it let it run overnight so it doesn't interrupt anything you're doing.

YOyoYOhowsDAjello, can you please let me know how to do and (where to get) the torture test for Prime?

Thanks!

Let me pinch hit.

Prime95

Everything you need to know about using it is on the web page or in the Readme/Help files.

Run Memtest at least overnight to make sure it's good ram.

No need for P95 in testing ram. It's used for system stabilty (when CPU and chipset are OC'd). IMHO, it would be a waste of time for your purpose.

I let the tests run overnight, and maybe into the next day. Start it before bed, check it when you wake up. If there are still no errors, let it run while you go to class, work, or whatever it is you do.

Quick question: Does prime95 test the cpu or memory?

If i run prime95 in my system cpu useage stays pretty low but my memory gets used up.

prime95 is for testing memory, are you sure you are going to options>torture test? for testing the cpu you should use the top test, small ffts. but for more memory stuff, use the bottom one, blend. for just memory though, you should be using memtest only. just start it before you go to bed.

I don't see where on prime95 that you can select top test, small ffts.

Options > Torture Test > select Small FFTs

Options > Torture Test > select Small FFTs

Mine doesn't show that option. I can select torture test but then the test just runs.

Most likely due to Prime95 requesting too much physical memory, and then Windows has to swap frantically to actually give it that much RAM, hence the low CPU load.
