After trying to run memtest i finally get it to work. I tried using memtest 3.0 with floppy and when it tried to load it would just restart my computer. Then i tried Memtest 3.1 on floppy and i would get jiberish. Finally i tried the ISO and it worked.

Windows XP seems to be stable on my computer games run fine everything seems fine except when i try to instal some games or unzip/rar/ace large files i get all sorts of file is corrupt errors. I get it when i try to instal Far Cry and when i try to instal Soldier of Fortune. I tend to get errors when i try to instal 3DMark03 yet i didnt get any errors when installing Doom 3 or when playing it.

I dont overclock but i have an Abit kV8 motherboard with "on the fly overclocking" i tried disableing that and also using the µGuru utility i drop everything to what i think is normal (not very sure) um Ext. clock 200, CPU voltage 1.5 AGP voltage 1.5 and DDR voltage 2.5. Messeing with this stuff doesnt seem to help my instalation problems.

So i run Memtest to check my memory. once it starts running i get errors (see pictures) i cant really tell whats going on with the numbers i'm hoping someone can help me interpret these results. Also if my memory is screwed up what can i do? I purchased the memory from Newegg about a month ago.

The first step is to ensure that you are not overclocking in any way. I'm not familiar with "µGuru", but it sounds like it should have something to restore your default clock speeds and voltages. Overclocking can cause perfectly good RAM to generate errors in Memtest. If you see errors in Memtest without overclocking, you know you have a hardware problem.

The next step is to identify which RAM module is having a problem. Is it a single stick or multiple? If it's a single stick, contact Newegg and RMA it. If it's multiple, try alternating modules and running Memtest to identify the faulty stick.

Well, any errors are bad errors. And most of the time don't make much sense. I figure either your ram is incompatible with the mobo, or the ram is simply bad. If you are using 2 different brands/models, or even 2 sticks of the same, then use only one at a time and test until you determine which is bad.

In the end, you should be able to run memtest without ANY errors at all.

Well i am going to look into my settings a bit more but i am pretty sure i am not overclocking. I have never sent anything back to newegg can anyone tell me how it works? if i send it back can i only get it replaced for the same stick of RAM brand wise. I am not sure if this stick is compatible with my motherboard its not listed on the site.. only the 256 version. Has anyone else used this particular RAM with this motherboard?

i have only one stick of RAM and it is Corsair Value Select PC3200 DDR400 512mb

my motherboard is Abit KV8

again Help and Suggestions are very appreciated

From the specs on Abit it looks like the memory is compatable.

In my experience, Newegg is the easiest company in the internet to deal with. To return something, go to newegg.com and select your account. Under Order and Returns you will find Return (RMA) Request. Just follow the instructions. Good luck!
