memtest erroring like crazy

i ran memtest for about 40 sec and i got about an error per percentage point. im using PNY 2x 512MB PC3200 ddr ram could my mem really be that bad??? or is something else happening

its set to "auto" on my mobo but then i can increase it by like .2 and then by .4 so it wont tell me

isnt pc3200 supposed to run at like 2.6 v???

2.6 volts for vanilla PC3200, 2.7-2.8 volts for fancy stuff. Gigabyte seems to have developed a reputation for memory issues so I'm not ready to throw the blame at PNY yet.

it still wont tell me what my voltages are i tried the ctl+F1 thing got into the advanced chipset setting but that just lets me change the timeings on the mem doesnt say anything about specific voltages

Look in the Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker section of the BIOS, and they have DDR voltage control listed there. Try poking it up 0.2 volts and run Memtest to see whether that has an effect or not.

that wont hurt the memory? or void the warrenty cuz if it is the mem i deff wanna get $ towards new stuff

It shouldn't hurt the memory. You would have to look at PNY's memory warranty for the terms, to know if it would be voided by raising the memory voltage. I don't know what voltage the board gives the RAM by default, but looking at page 51 of the manual, it appears to be targeting a mere 2.5 volts as the default, since it calls it the "DDR25V" voltage. Even 2.7 volts is less than a 10% boost and certainly not a cause for concern, I run mine at 2.7 volts as a matter of routine.

Then it seems either your memory or mobo is bad. You could try one module at a time next, or try memtesting in a different board to see if it might be the motherboard.

only thing I had for my first build was a motherboard manual for an Epox motherboard, so long ago this was 🙂
