originally had a stick of Centron Value memory ,512mb, 3200 pc Ram in and memtest 86 was continually showing errors on test 5. Ordered 2 new sticks of exact same stuff as I had been wanting to add more ram anyway.
One new stick of 512mb also showing errors on the same test. But not as many.

Then I ran Microsofts memory diagnostic and get no errors at all.

So I figured oh well put all 3 sticks in for a gig and a halfs worth of ram. Ran memtest 86 again and it shows zero errors now.

This is an amd64 bit 3200+
Nothing overclocked.
ram 2.5 latency 3-3-8

Perhaps the memory downclocked to DDR333 with three sticks installed and eliminated the weaker chips problems at DDR400? Just a guess. Have you checked cpu-id to see what the memory is running at?

after further refreshing my memory on the board specs it shows support on this board for 2 banks at 200 mhz but then when you add a third dimm will in fact drop down to 166 mhz.

So which is better 2 banks at 200 or 3 at 166 or is it negligable?
fsb is at 200 with a multiplier of 11

all three sticks are 512 mb

memtest is the defacto standard for hardware memory diagnostics..

you failed to mention your brand of motherboard, and what form of cooling your using.

memtest stresses all major subsystems, so memtest errors can also be a sign of processor and motherboard issues.

if you want to avoid headaches in the future, stick with proven brands.

Crucial and Corsair fit that bill!

Mr Chad
I can overclock the memory like that but since the board doesn't support 200 mhz on 3 dimms, I guess what your thinking is just try and squeak out a little more then the 166 that 3 supports?

from what I have read seems some have had luck with this board also setting cpu fsb to as high as 222 with 1.6 v. but I can't really say I have ever convinced myself the tradeoffs are worth it

On retrospect maybe I should have gone with 2- 1 gb sticks for max memory and maximum bus speed. But the 1 gig also run at a higher latency:frown:

abit kv8 max3 with air cooling up the ying yang sytem rarely gets hotter then 45 gaming may hit 50 on cpu.

Centron is no slouch either and has a very good reputation, now if you want to make the argument that perhaps I shold not have gotten the value mem;)
