I would go with Crucial,not the cheapest or the most expensive,but just good quality and excellent value for money, not to meantion limited lifetime warranty and excellent customer support,always pays to go with quality ram in the long run.

i know crucial is good, im running 2x 512 in this comp, and i have used their lifetime warrenty before, its smooth, however 80$ for a 512 is annoying, i wish ram prices would drop again

The last time I had memory test errors I sent my Crucial stick back to Crucial for testing,they confirmed it was faulty and sent me a new ram replacement free of charge,one reason why I stick with them .

yea thats what i did, however this stick that is bad is not a crucial stick is doesnt seem to have a brand uses nanya chips

Have you tried upping the voltage on it?

sometimes more volts can help,if you think they're toast anyways give it all the juice you can.

i think thats how i killed it in the first place, comp was fine, im a OC nut so there i went, upped voltage to 2.6 FSB 150 wouldent boot , went back to default stability issues

i really shoudl just leave well enough alone,

2.6volts isnt really high at all,I run mine at 2.8v (default is 2.5v) for over a year & they are fine.

you should be safe up to 2.8v over that i would be worried but 2.6v is very low still.

yea i know but thats all that I changed between working and not working

and this is odd, i poped in a 512 stick that was fine in my comp i was running 1.5 gigs took 1 out so this has 1 gig now, been fine for months, put in the other comp and memtest found 500 or so errors

beginning to think its not the ram

testing at 2.7v now

I guess it's not the ram,could be the chipset or the cpu's cache....

anyway to test that specifically?
im formatting and reinstalling XP now just to see if itll work

if its the CPU woud upping the voltage or lowering the FSB get around the issue or no?

its a AMD XP 2200+ i beleive 1.8 GHz default speed

died on reinstall of XP tried again with the FSB set to 100MHz for 1350MHz overall, seems to e working better, if this holds im just gonna leave it here, but i still ont know if its the CPU or RAM exactly

hummm at default speeds super pi cancels out (round error) after about 5 loops an the 1 mill test

seti runs for all of 2 minutes before it crashes

im just gonna leave it underclocked i think

Sounds like CPU or mobo may be toast, if the RAM functions correctly without errors in another system. 2.6v won't kill DDR, in fact most PC3200 DIMMs require upping the voltage to at least 2.6v. Standard specs range from 2.5v to 2.8v mostly.
I would check your CPU cooling and heatsink attachment carefully first.

the thing is i doubt its a cooling issue because the computer was rock solid at stock speeds 1.8 GHz for a week running seti before this morning when it started going ape and its not over heating, temp never gets above 50C,

it will run at stock speeds in windows just fine untill i try to do some CPU intensive thing, like run seti or super pi

its only gonna be used for random web viewing, reading news and such online, it might be used to pay CDs from teh cdrom but thats about it, its been running seti at 1350MHz FSB @ 100 and not 133 for about 6 hours now with no issues, and im just gonna leave it there

check your psu, too. raising the voltage a little shouldn't have made it less stable.
