MEMTEST 1.7 Question

Hi all,

Just wondering, which test out of all 10 tests in memtest 1.7 stresses the memory the most? Think last two is not included in the normal test routine. Hm.. if that's the case then out of 8 tests?

Thanks in advance 🙂

In general Memtest does not stress memory all that much. Are you trying to stress test in DOS or what? You'll get a good initial indicator of stability with Memtest but, you won't really know until you get into the OS and hammer on it.

To an extent what Yellowbeard said ( which is correct ), there are chances of your memory passing memtest flawlessly and being unstable in Windows when gaming etc.
It has been proved that memtest doesn't stress the memory controller a lot, which can also cause memory errors ( remember the situation with the first 2GB Kits in the DDR1 era ? ) [ CE6 rings any bells ? 😛 ]

Hi, thanks for the reply. I know EXACTLY what you mean BenchZowner... This happend when I had OCZ 2gb DDR500 3-3-2-8 Enhanced Bandwidth (one of the best, IF not the best DDR1 2GB kit).. Runs totally fine when running 250mhz but anything over 250mhz like at 260 passes memtest flawlessely but freezes in games.... Was using Opteron 165 with it... tried it with another Opteron 146 as well but same result..

Thanks again for the replies 🙂

Cheers
