Yeah Jackson was basically leveled with like 8 deaths and it didn't make national news. I had someone go by my house. Other than my patio furniture and grill, they said the house looked OK. The people that looked at it for had the siding ripped from their house. Storms suck.
Well, that can be expected. The story wasn't shocking or sensational enough to warrent a news story.Originally posted by: dtyn

I wouldn't expect any stories. Jackson, TN was destroyed by tornados a few months ago, buildings were leveled, houses destroyed, and there wasn't anything story about that, even in the Tennessean.

Since when is a city being leveled to the ground not a shocking news story. Half of downtown Jackson was rubble, and about 3/4 of the population were in shelters. No one cares about Tennessee because we're all a bunch of washed up rednecks .
Memphis-AP) -- At least one person is known dead in Memphis after a strong thunderstorm struck the city this morning. Shelby County Emergency Management director Clinton Buchanan says the death was caused by a falling tree. Buchanan wasn't immediately sure whether the victim was in a car or a house. Authorities say several hundred fallen trees are blocking roads and power lines are down over a wide area. About a quarter-(m)-million customers in the midtown area of Memphis were without electricity. Buchanan also says dozens of buildings suffered structural damage from apparent straight line winds. Damage assessment teams have been sent to several areas.

I was supposed to fly into Memphis today, but they moved my flight to tomorrow. Apparently there are still outgoing flights from the airport, the planes already on the ground, but they're turning away incoming flights. Looks like the expect (optomistically?) to have the airport running again by tomorrow morning.
Hope the damage isn't as bad as it looks at first glance.
