memory wont run at addvertied timings

i have 4 1gb sticks of good crucial ballistix memory

right now in the bios its running at 5-5-5-18 at 1.84V

it was advertised at 4-4-4-12 at 2.2V

and when i tried to do that the pc posted and went past the bios and everything but never would getto the windows loadup screen

i am not overclocking the cpu at all...shouldnt it work at the advertized numbers?

What motherboard are you using? I'm actually having the same problem... I can't OC my E6400 past 2.6GHz, and I'm really starting to think it is the RAM. And I can't increase the voltage of my Crucial Ballistix RAM past 1.85v.

With 4 sticks, chances of running advertised specs are pretty low unless the mfg specifically states they've been tested to run in that configuration. I know a lot of memory and boards have problems running at fast/spec'd timings with 4 modules installed.

I'd try em in pairs of 2 (2 x 1GB total) and see if they run at the rated specs. If not, and you're certain its not your PSU, I'd send em back. I've got 2 sticks of Ballistix on RMA atm, they were just dead/dying after about a month and a half of running fine at the spec'd speeds of 1000MHz 5-5-5-12 @ 2.18V

So what exactly would the PSU have to do with memory timings??
Id he had a crappy PSU it would affect other stuff beforew the memory..

i have a 500watt antec psu...im going to try at 5-5-5-12 instead of the adveritzed 4-4-4-12

what do you think i should up the voltage too for these timings?should i keep it the same?

this was freaking expensive memory it better be the psu...paid 300 for a pair then 250 for another pair when the price lowered

Have you tried going into BIOS and manually changing the timings and voltage? When I first got my RAM, the SPD ran them at some other timings other than advertised, so I changed them in BIOS>

I got CORSAIR XMS 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel

it was advertised 400Mhz 2-2-2-5

but it would only run a 3-2.5-3-7

Have you measured your RAM voltage at each module? I don't trust the BIOS to tell me what is really going on re. voltages - I test them with my DMM.
