Memory Upgrade!

I think I'm starting to feel the consequences of not putting up a little extra money up for some better ram, and Battlefield 2 is my primary culprit. I'm looking to move up to 2 GB of ram, ram that is good for my mobo, and can overclock well and won't break my bank.

Anyone have any ideas?

Can you give me links? G.skill has so many in that category as well as OCZ?

Any experience with my particular mobo? or those just general choices?

How much are you looking to spend? There are some awesome 2x1GB DDR500 kits that are pricey, or there's the Patriot 2x1GB DDR400 (apparently OC's up to 250mhz at good timings) for $135 on newegg after rebate.

Will those timings of 3-4-4-8 be a factor in overall performance? I'm running 2.5-4-3-8 or something similar now at 240mhz. Which isnt that great.

I think that 2.5-4-3-8 at 240 isn't too bad personally. I guess if you're shelling the cash for ddr500 you're hoping for 250 at tight timings, but you'll often be limited by whatever mobo you're using as to just how tight you can get.

As far as real-world performance difference? Virtually none in my experience. Memory timings make a very slight difference for game FPS or anything else. If you can squeeze another 10mhz out of your external bus though, that can help a lot more. If you're at x10 CPU multi then the 100mhz is far more noticeable than a CAS=2, again, in my experience. CPU speed is king...
