Memory upgrade suggestion

I am in desperate need of a memory upgrade.

I have a MSI KT333 MB with a stick of 256MB Kingston 2100.

I won't be keeping the KT333 too much longer as it is close to 3 years old. I would like to buy a 512MB stick of 3200 or 4000 ram, run it in the board I have now, and when its time to upgrade buy a second stick of the same brand to run in a dual channel board.

Can I mix the ram speeds (2100 and 3200) in a KT333 board? I know I probably can't but I thought it was worth asking.

I would hate to buy another stick of 2100 ram to run in my old board.

Thank you for yor suggestions,

Ben

you should be able to, but obviously, they would run at the speed of the slowest stick.

a few mobos have a problem with some speed RAM, while some don't. it will say in the manual.

if you are going to upgrade soon, then go for the 3200, unless you want to really upgrade bigtime and want to go for 4000!!

Buy some value ram. 3200 speeds. Mushkin has some good ones. 2x512 for $135~, with better timeings than the C. Yes you can mizx it but its not going to run any faster than the slowest ram can run at, which is 2100 in your case. You dontr need 4000 ram, unless you arnt going to upgrade to a64.

Intresting. I really don't mind running at 2100 if I was investing in something I could use in the future.

An a64 might be in my future once the prices come down a bit. What would be the best ram to buy now (that would run in my current system) to use in an a64 system down the road?

thanks,

Ben
