Currently I have the following:

AMD X2 5600+
2GB PC2-5300 667MHZ (4X512MB)

Now, I want to go get 2 x 1gb dd2 pc2-5300 667mhz ram. I would like to know if I can put those in two slot, and put 2x512mb in the other two to have a total of 3gb ram. However, will it still run at the ddr2 potential (dual channel or whatever it is).

Anyone understand what I am trying to do?

Basically doing the following:

1gb sticks in slot 1 and 3
512mb sticks in 2 and 4

Reversed if need be.

Will this work?

You are running 4 sticks now, so there should be no problem. 2T is needed i think. Dual channel is only affected by the two sticks which form the "one big" channel, so as long as they are identical in pairs, i see no problem.

nope.. got to try yourself. Look in the manual of your mobo what it says about 4 stick dual channel configurations and whether your sticks are double sided or single sided. I never got that DS SS part though, i think they are all double sided nowadays.

It's a matter of me going and purchasing the ram. I would rather not if the ram wont work....

that will work fine as long as the identical stick is in the matching slot. You want each stick on the same channel to match up.

Yes...I'm running 2 different memories in my system

2GB of DDR2-667 Crucial 10th Anniversary and 2GB of G.Skill HZ DDR2-800

Both are running in dual channel (each channel is matched with the identical sticks) at DDR2-800 2.1v 4-4-4-12 for a total of 4GB of memory.
