Is it possible to use PC2100/2700 etc memory in a older motherboard as PC100/133? Its confusing with all the different speeds and types nowadays.

There were a few motherboards manufactured back then which allowed you to insert DDR and SDR RAM. Nowadays you generally won't find any such motherboard.

DDR pin count != SDR pin count. They're physically different and won't fit in the other's slot.

You can mix and match speed, but the slower one would be the limiting component in speed. So if you have a processor that uses a 133mhz FSB and install a 100mhz piece of RAM...unless you overclock, your FSB will run at 100 (stability reasons)

no it is not possible
PC1600 and upwards are DDR RAM
PC133 is SDRAM
they use different interfaces and modules

ah thanks! They looked similar so I thought it might have been possible compared to the differences of PC100 to simms from before

ECS motherboard, that supports both types of SDRAM, DDR and SDR.

You can't use both DDR & SDR at the same time, just one or the other, but good for gradual upgrades.

But like Darien said,
