Memory Testing

I recieved an error about memory about 2 days ago and I figured it was nothing. But now Ive seen a few other people complain about the exact same thing. Is there anyway of testing my memory for errors and abilities.

I use all three: the one john mentioned, the original Memtest86 which is being maintained again, and the free tester from M$. If it passes all three, you can be fairly sure it's not your RAM.

how do I run them? Its really confusing to me, I dont have a floppy drive, and I dont have any CD/DVD software so I cant do anything with CD's

download burn4free. its a free burning software. select burn ISO, and select the ISO file of memtest. burn it, and set the bios to boot from a cd. run the test for a few hours. it just goes forever.

The DOS version of the Ultimate Boot CD (ubcd.com) has memory testing proggies on it.

how long should I test for, and what happens if something shows up highlighted in red.

I'd run them for at least four full passes. If you get an error that points to a memory failure, swap your memory modules' slots and run the test again. If the error moves, then you know which module to replace. Or you could try upping the RAM voltage a 0.05V at a time to see if that clears it up. Retesting after each step.
. Sometimes just reseating the modules will clear an error.
