Memory Strap??

Hi All,

I have read a couple of time this trem memory strap when talking about OC. What is it? I see it in reviews for mobo's as well?
 
So it is an actual strap. I thought is was a tech. term. For example a quote from a review:

"The 975X's front side bus will not overclock as high as the P965, but due to relaxed MCH timings and memory strap changes it is difficult to take advantage of the higher P965 front side bus speeds without premium memory and cooling solutions."

seems to be they are talking some tech lingo. What does it mean? What does a "relaxed MCH timings" mean for that matter?

Well I can honestly say that I've never heard of the term "memory strap." Maybe that's why others aren't responding?


Something more useful though was found on Google, searching for "memory strap" definition.

"Strap basically, is the Latency of the Motherboard, when different default CPU FSB's are used. Think of ram, and cas. well, motherboards have kinda the same thing."

Seems that it has to do with timings.

Now thats one of the most informative links ive read in a long time.
Especially the info about the default cpu multiplier effecting the nbcc regardless of a forced lower multiplier.

Heck, that info should be a sticky at the top of every overclocking forum. :thumbsup:
