memory standard

im new to pc building and would like help to this problem:

my old motherboard's memory standard was ddr2 800 and i need to get a new one but the only one that fits my budget has ddr2 533...can someone explain the difference and if its even compatible and how it will affect performance if at all?

If your getting a new Motherboard that only does DDR2 533, the DDR2 800mhz should work fine at 533mhz.

What parts do you already have? You should not be limited to DDR533 regardless of budget.
