Im building an SLI system with a 3500+, which i plan on overclocking, and a gig of RAM. My queston is, wil PC-4400 memory give me a great performance boost or is it overkill?

Well, are you overclocking or not? If not overclocking, get value PC3200, because there is no official specification above that and CL2 RAM's a waste for stock speeds. (Anything above PC3200 is strictly overclocking RAM.)

Go for memory using TCCD with a good PCB. PQI, Patriot/PDP w/XBL (the stuff at 2-2-2, not 2-3-2), and G.skill PC4400 come to mind for frugality, but if you want to spend more OCZ Platinum Rev. 2 (I think that's what it is... or is it EL?) is great as well.
