Memory speed error

I have 2 512 sticks of ram, DDR400, that have been working fine for several months. I added another 512 stick of ddr400 today, identical to one of my current sticks. But now when my mobo posts, it reads the memory as ddr333. I know for a fact that all three sticks are 400. What could be causing this? It recognizes the amount correctly, but not the speed. I tried to overclock the memory back up to 400 using ntune, but my pc freezes. Maybe the new ram has bad sectors? It is a used stick that my brother gave me, but in his PC it worked fine, reading as ddr400.

It could be in the mobo. This was one of the problems of early NF4, wherein is you fill more than two memory slots it auto-downgrades the memory bus frequency. Try combining the new stick with an old stick for two stick combination and see if the memory speed goes back up to 400. If it does, then the new ram stick is good. You might want to check for bios updates.
