Hey all,

Just got my system and am about to start building. I got the A8N32-Sli Deluxe and with it I got a 2GB OCZ EB Platinum PC 4000 (DDR 500) dual channel kit. I am just wondering if there is anything I need to do for the RAM to function at it's rated speed? Do I need to change any of the settings on the board? Sorry if this is a dumb question I am a software developer, not completely comfortable just plugging it in a hoping it works.

Thanks,
James

Good question! And yes you will have to change your settings to run the ram at its rated speed.

Ram speed is calculated as HTT(fsb)x memory ratio(divider) x 2
Default for AMD systems is 200 x 1:1 = 200mhz x 2 = DDR400

To get the rated speed of the ram you will have to overclock the HTT to 250mhz
250 x 1:1 = 250mhz x2 = DDR500
To achieve this you will most likely have to lower the CPU multi, because 250 x 12 = 3.0ghz and I doubt you can hit that without phase change cooling

You should be able to do 250 x 10 = 2.5ghz pretty easily, probabaly without a voltage increase

And I should add that you have to manualy set the 1:1 ratio, because the Asus board will automatically apply a memory divider when the HTT is overclocked if "max mem clock" is left on AUTO

In bios

CPU configuration/DDR settings/max mem clock
The settings are
DDR400 = 1:1
DDR333 = 6:5
DDR266 = 3:2
